After looking at a GXP in the flesh today , I dont see how it could . I got a good look of the underbody and the front engine cradle . The engine cradle , which is gonna be the same one used in the Monte and Impala is a HAUS and there are several other areas where the cradle and front frame sections are heavily braced with what looked to be plate steel . I havent seen any actual weight #'s , but thats where ALOT of the extra weight has to be coming from . It really looks like GM went the extra mile to make the front frame section and suspension heavy duty enuff to take the added stress of the V8.

The car looks MUCH better in person than in pics . The one I saw was black with black leather( that looked like real leather ) and suede inserts . The car had a precense . The most suprising part was the price . $32K on the window sticker ($29K base ) , but the pontiac dealer I was at is a haggle free dealer ....their no bull price on the window was $27,600 .

Didnt get to drive it , I was on my way home from work and didnt intend to stop anyways . Just saw it sitting there , so had to stop at least for a look .

 

Since like 2000 the Monte has gotten lighter weight materials used to hold the dash together, magnesium? It has traditionally been lighter than other W-bodies.

 

correct me if I'm wrong, but the 2 doors vs. 4 saves a lot of weight too.

 

I was thinking that myself... I wasn't sure how much, but I figured it would save some weight.

 

2 doors are lighter than 4 doors.

 

According to Cars.com, a 2005 supercharged SS Monte is 188lbs lighter than a 2005 supercharged GTP.

But from GM's chevy & pontiac websites it's only 61lbs difference.
