Here is what I think GM's Taglines for it's brands should be.....(assuming GM delivers on quality product)
Chevy = Yesterday and Today America drives a Chevrolet
Cadilac = The standard of the world....Redfined.
Buick = Buy your last car from us before you die..
(okay that one isn't serious, but I havent seen anything new from them so I can't think of a fitting one.
Saturn = The American car that can.???
Pontiac = Total Performance. Total Excitment.
GMC = Billy Bob's Truck dressed up nice for the hoe down? (sorry my documented hate for GMC is known)
Chevy Truck = The truck that builds America.

General Motors - Give Us a Few Years and Our Cars Won't Suck So Bad.
By throwing your "well-document hatred" at GMC, you show your ignorance of about a century of GM history. Clearly, you don't know d*ck about such names as the General, Astro, 6500, etc., but there's a lot of truck buyers that do. It'd be great if GMC would get to sell trucks and the rest of the divisions would stick to cars and mini-SUVs, but we know damn well that Chevrolet wouldn't stand a chance if they only got to sell their current car line-up.

Actually, I like a lot of the ones GM is currently using:
Pontiac: Fuel For The Soul
Cadillac: Break Through
GMC: Professional Grade.
I think those are fine.
Buick: It's All Good... ridiculous.
Chevrolet: We'll Be There... too bland.

Your point is? History don't mean very much anymore...look at Old's death. GM doesn;t need two truck brands...it's like robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Maybe they should only sell GMC's in Canada since that is where they are so popular.

GM sells more trucks than cars.
GM has 2 truck divisions, and 5+ car division, depending on how far you want to go. (Include Saab, etc).
GMC also gives GM the ability to put trucks on a Potiac/Buick/Cadillac dealer's lot.
Add to that the fact that GMC is now GM's #2 selling nameplate, and I can see no reason for GM to dump GMC.

Saturn - At least its not a Kia.
Cadillac - We're currently cooler than any other company in the world.
Pontiac - We'll have a lot of fuel for your soul in a few years.
Buick - You're old. We're old. Buy one.
Chevrolet - At least we didnt kill the Corvette.
Hummer - Move your car or die.
Holden - You stupid Americans can only have 18,000 of our sweet cars.

This is one of the most enjoyable threads I've seen in a while.
One thing we can all agree on: Buick is for Grandparents.
And I'd just like to add:
Chevrolet: We'll be there.........in the coffin. But feel free to enjoy some sandwiches before you leave.

I still think that GMC deserves to sell trucks, even if their recent transformation in Pontiac Truck has made their line-up really quite questionable.
And I find this neglect of product history so odd at a time when retro design is such a big market force. I think a lot of folks have gotten the two concepts confused, and they're really very different things. Then again, it is more difficult to uphold a hundred years or so of tradition than it is to throw curvy bodywork on a SUV chassis, so I'm not surprised.

Edit: It's hard to believe this is the same division that produced the now-legendary Grand National just 15 years ago, isn't it?
