Are there any pictures up of the Cavalier replacement?

??

I'm wondering because my roommate went into the dealership where he bought his car from today to pay his bill, and he said one of the guys there showed him a picture of a 2005 (he forgot the name of it) but he said its a car that will be replacing the Cavalier...

Now I know that the Cavalier is suppose to die out soon, but I don't remember anyone posting anything about the name of its replacement or any pics of it. Correct me if I'm wrong please...If I'm right, I could probably go in there and get more details for you guys...

AFAIK, they've been keeping it under very tight wraps, same as the C6. I couldn't imagine a dealership having a pic. My guess is he showed him the new Malibu.

Ya whatever they showed him is pure BS.

The 2005 Delta-based Cavalier replacement still doesn't have a name... it's up in the air, or at least it was last I heard. And even if they did decide on a name (which still could be Cavalier, BTW) they haven't released it.

I, too, find it rather odd that no pics have been seen yet...

FWIW, Saturn Ion was the first North American Delta car...

Doesnt chevy make a pretty nice profit on the cavalier? Why would they risk cancelling something that still brings in a good profit.?

Actually, it's quite the opposite from what I've read... GM loses money on every Cavalier they sell.

The Delta replacement is supposed to take less labor to construct, and is expected to return Cavalier to a profitable vehicle... again, from what I've read.

Also, sharing the Delta platform with other cars instead of just the two J-Cars will help spread the cost out as well, for the new vehicle.

No, they lose a fair bit of money on each one. Even though some of the tooling theoretically goes back to 1982, they simply can't sell the car for enough money to recover their costs. But, they can't just abandon the market because the J-cars have one of the highest rate of 'first car' buyers in GM's stable. Or looked at another way, the Suburban's gross profit of $10,000+ offsets a lot of losses from the car biz.

Going forward, GM is putting a lot of effort into making sure the Cav's replacement will have a better chance at profitability.

I think that your friend was probably shown a pic of the Opel that the Cavalier will be similar to. The Malibu was supposed to look like the Signum and the Cavalier like the Astra. The Astra coupe with the Turbo(or s/c can't remember right now) looks stunning, but GM won't simply bring it here with those looks. They will modify and *gulp* mess it up a little by adding that awful bar and frowning face.

But as far as I have heard and read the Cavy doesn't make a profit for GM but as I understand it, they must sell a decent amount of them for CAFE, but maybe someone who understands the law better can explain that one.

The Cavalier is supposed to be out after a while and that is why Gm freshened the existing one, as a 'stop gap' till the replacement arrives(sound familiar? "GTO" ) but no one knows much about it. It has to be a volume seller so it won't be all that poewrful but we may see a really good GMPD version with 200hp within the first two years of production.

I live very close to the Lordstown Assembly (J-Car plant)... I have a few people who are friends that work there.

I've been told a seperate line has been / is being set up for Delta cars right now...

Would make sense being that the Chevy Delta car is a go for MY2005. ...

The image would seem to be a photoshoped version of the upcoming Opel Astra. Is this the new Cavalier?

I think that would make a decent replacement myself. I still think the new Malibu is hideous, though. Although I like the interior ok.

I like it . It's maybe a little too Focus-like in the hatch area, but we likely won't get a hatchback anyway.

That Cavalier picture looks like it would make a nice Civic SI killer.

I like the new Malibu. If I didn't care about horsepower and going fast, I'd get one as my next daily driver. However I do care, and a 96 Impala SS is in order to servce that purpose.

That's just what GM needs in a new Cavalier. A sedan and this coupe/hatchback with s/c Ecotec would surely get some people's attention.
