Thanksgiving Driver Safety

Good afternoon, Firebird Friends and Camaro Comrades..............

In a week, most of us will be gathering with friends and family to give Thanks for all we enjoy in this life. The Thanksgiving Holiday is the heaviest travelled time of the year in terms of motor vehicle traffic.

Many have heard my plea before, but I believe it bears repeating:

On behalf of all of all the men and women at General Motors......please......I beg you:

>Buckle up when you get in your cars and trucks......and that goes for EVERY passenger as well. We put seatbelts in all of our vehicles for a good reason -- they can save your life and those who are riding with you.
>Don't drink and drive.....if you're going to be drinking, then please designate a driver before you leave for the party. If you'll be by yourself, please call a cab.
>If you're going to be driving any distance, please stop every once in a while to stretch and refresh yourself. Get a cup of coffee or a soda............The latest studies show that most accidents occur because the driver is fatigued and/or sleep deprived.
>Cell phones are great.....but pull off the road into a parking lot if you need to make a call. (I love those bumper stickers that say 'Hang up and Drive!')

While it may seem trite, I'm sincere when I say: ' we want you around for many more years..............'

Please enjoy your holiday!

Follow-on note...

If you have two engineers from Germany visiting for the week, don't rent them a Suburban.

You should have seen their eyes when they saw that thing... they both own Passats, and think that a Passat is a big car.

Re: Re: Thanksgiving Driver Safety

Heh, that reminds me a few years ago when I was at Taiwan and was explaining Camaro's to my uncle.. When I told him it had a 5700 cc engine, he silently mouthed the number in his mind, and his eyes widended and he just quilently went, "wah!" He got a laughwhen I told him that they were commenly referred to as small block's.. 0-60 in low 5's.. quater miles in 13's..

On the flip side, my cousin then flips thru his car mag on the table, and shows me the stats which we would now know as an Evo.. turbo charged 2.0L I4... Awd... hovering near the 300 hp mark... and then my eyes bug out when I see 0-60 in 4.7 secs and the quater in 13's and happly exclaims, "turbo'd 2000 cc's!"

They had some nice japanese cars there, but even more expensive ones were still fitted with the smaller engines than we're use to.

Happy Thanksgiving Red hope you enjoy the time back home in that planetary town.

We'll have to get together before the holidays are over.
