TCC tests Tahoe... and comes away impressed

Summary:

I have not been as impressed with a new GM vehicle in 15-plus years of covering the industry and test-driving new cars. This new Tahoe is a magnificent SUV. And with Chevy's initial quality and customer satisfaction scores on an upward trend (Chevy has actually beatenToyota here lately) there is nowhere to go but up. Here's to hoping GM has more of this kind of engineering and styling commitment in the works.

The new Tahoe looks awesome. Give it a 5/60,000 warranty and it will crush Toyota and Ford.

I love the new GMT900 SUV's. That the review comes off as very positive isn't really a surprise.

The new Tahoe and other GMT-900s look extremely impressive. Kudos to GM. Now as mentioned, back it up with a more upstanding warranty if you really want to convince people that there's substance underneath the sheet metal.

I think it's poised to by far be the best SUV/truck on the market. Toyota will be coming out with its new full sized truck/suv this upcoming year as well though I think a bit after GM.

Should be interesting.

These SUV's are really getting me excited about the new Silverados. If they're remotely close it's no wonder they had the employee pricing to move the outdated GMT800's.

If the new Silverado has the subdued styling of the Tahoe, with some aggressive Truck schemes... Along with the Interior... I wouldn't even consider a GMT800 sitting beside it...

I thought from the 1st batch of GM pics I saw the Tahoe was pretty bland . But the more I see of it , its starting to show up in mags with non-GM pics , and the Tahoes they showed transporting poeple on the New Years eve special ....its a damn good looking truck . It looks tough as well as being pretty upscale looking too .

Some say it looks bland... TCC thinks the term "confident authority" aptly describes its looks.

I think it looks strong and classy... especially when viewed from head on.

Even Motor Trend gave it a pretty nice review in February's issue. I personally think it is a very nice looking vehicle.

Personally, I think the exterior is about as bland as everything else Chevy has out right now (outside of the Vette) - very bland indeed. However, the interior looks first rate, and the gas mileage is damn good for a vehicle of that size.

While I like the '07 Tahoe, there are areas that I think GM will be surpassed:

1) IRS to allow fold-flat seats. Not every full-size SUV driver needs the ability to tow. Having IRS can provide a smoother ride AND fold-flat seats. None of the GMT9xx models even have this as an option.

2) Styling. The '07 Tahoe doesn't break new ground styling-wise, which leaves the door open for other manufacturers (who take risks) to come in with something new, fresh and hot.

I dont think that will even be an issue . Isnt the current even BLANDER Tahoe still the best selling full size SUV by a large margin .

139k+ for Tahoe thru Nov 05.
104k+ for Expedition thur Nov 05.

Both are down significantly from 2004.

The Tahoe looks good from straight on. From an angle, the front looks odd. I think it is a very safe design, but nothing particularly special.

The interior is very nice, and a far cry from the current truck.

cmutt, an IRS SUV can still tow just fine. Check the Expedition/Navigator, or Armada specs to verify.

That said, the truck should sell very well, especially to existing Tahoe owners. GM did leave the door open for the competitors, however. They should have gone the extra distance and given it IRS, so it would have a livable 3-row seat, that also folds flat. That is important for many in this segment.

It should still be the best selling large SUV.
