SUVs out. LSS's in?

Anyone else noticed this? Everywhere I look there are new Luxury Sport Sedans like the BMWs and the Chrysler 300s and Dodge Magnums, Chargers, Cadillacs etc. They all seem to be loaded with leather and a V8. SUVs now seem to be relegated to the second hand market.

SUV/s offered image, power, and space. Somethign that was not offered in many vehicles even just a few years ago. now we have choices and people are making thiers.

People would forever buy SUVs if the gas price was low enough to afford it.

I disagree. They had no alternative before. To get the features of an SUV, you had to buy an suv. now those features are available in sport wagons (magnum) and numerous sports and muscle sedans.

I would think that a mid size SUV offers similar fuel economy to a large sedan, and the SUV would have more room......

Suv's dont offer as much room as you might think. My crew cab pickup has more rear leg room then my Expedition had. Small suv's have tiny interiors. At least to me at 6'4". The Magnum and 300 offer more room then most small suvs and more then some large suv's. They are also lighter and get better milage then the larger suv's. They handle better, have awd available and are faster. The only advantage SUV's have is height and cargo capacity. Even that is debateable as the height is seen as a disadvantage to many and the cargo capacity is not that much more on most SUV's.

Oh...........and the biggest advantage is that they are cheaper.

Falchuck is sooooooo right. I, also, am 6'4", about 250. The trucks that the SUVs are based on typically have really poor legroom and the SUVs are no different, and the mid sized SUVs are almost unusable for us. Almost any RWD sedan or coupe offers tons more leg room, even the small ones. I drive a BMW 3 series, and sometimes I don't even put the seat all the way back.

In general, the women/soccer moms who adopted the SUVs don't have this problem. They think the SUVs offer so much room, and they are right - for KIDS. Adults fare really poorly in SUVs.

I need to throw my $.02 in here. SUVs are a passing fad brought on by the demise of the full size RWD sedan. Panel trucks (even with leather interiors) were never popular in the past, and to assume they would be popular indefinitely is an error. When the full size American sedan went away, the folks who drove them migrated to SUVs because the only alternatives were very expensive Euro/Japanese sedans. The combination of the everyday sedan driver and the soccer moms leaving their mini-vans behind made it appear the SUV had tapped an unforeseen market.

I said on the record quite a while ago that the new bigbody cars are the new SUVs. And we have all been seeing this in the market.

I can only hope so. I hate having an SUV so big that I can't look around it or over it.

I dunno, I still think for my Family an SUV is the ONLY way to go... Not a car.

It's worse when they have very dark tinted windows and you can't see through the vehicle, what is in front of you.

Yeah, I cant drive at all when I cant see through the vehicle in front of me.
I rearend people constantly!!!http://web.camaross.com/forums/newre...eply&p=3232177

The majority of vehicles on the road: Large Trucks, busses, pickup trucks, suvs and vans canniot be see through by a car. Paying attention to the vehicle in front of you and not tailgateing wiill solve this problem for ya!http://web.camaross.com/forums/newre...eply&p=3232177

Not only that, cargo room really isn't as good as people think it is. I remember the uproar when the X3 small ute had substantially less cargo room than the 3 series wagon.

I really wasn't talking about personal room only - I was refering to storage room too.

I bought a new dishwasher some time ago and took it home in the back of my Blazer.

No way I'd be able to do that in a sedan.

Yeah people can still tow **** with SUVs, and feel better hauling heavy stuff cause it's "based off a truck frame" so there's many people that won't be converted.
