Survey: What do you use your F-body for?
Survey: What do you use your F-body for?
What do you use your F-body for? I'd like to know since I am an advertising major. It would be an interesting point-of-view analysis.
If anybody would like to, answer these questions in a reply:
1. What do you use your f-body for? [everyday driver/weekend fun car/ race car]
2. How many people do you normally have in the car counting yourself? [1/2/3/4]
3. Do you ever use your f-body for grocery or other shopping? [yes/no]
4. Do you use your f-body more as a family car or more as your toy?
5. About how many hundred/thousand miles do you put on your f-body every year?
6. Is your f-body your only car? If not, what is your other car(s)?
7. Give only ONE or TWO short reasons for buying each of your cars (or just f-body if it is your only car).
8. On the 5th gen; hatchback or trunk?
9. On the 5th gen; aerodynamic like 4th gen or brick like CTS (or, if you rather, brick like most 1st gen based concepts)?
10. If there were a version of the 5th gen that was only a 2 seater, would you likely buy it instead of a Corvette or 4-seat Camaro?
11. Would you be interested in optional equipment like paddle shifters, GPS navigation, heated seats, dual climate controls, or any other comfort/entertainment items that were not offered on the 4th gens? Or do you just want a low tech 5th gen with just a shifter, headlight switch, air conditioner, and etc like the 4th gens?

Re: Survey: What do you use your F-body for?
1. Nice weather, fun "daily driver" car.
2. Myself, my son if he's being good.
3. Yup
4. Toy, though before we got all three car seats in my Accord I carried my 3 year old and twin 18 month old kids in my IROC.
5. About 7k
6. Honda Accord (me) and Ford Windstar (wife)
7. IROC: Do I need a reason. Honda: Great "daily driver" I can keep for 200k miles. Van: With three kids do I need to explain?
8. Hatch makes it more "Camaroish" but I like trunk.
9. Aerodymanic Brick.
10. 4 seater, and I would wish they made a sister car with 4 doors but having the same engine. Super Sport Sedan. GTO interior styling so it did not "look" like a GM car.
11. If they made a "sport sedan" version then options are good. For an SS, a Nav system might be nice but dual climate is overkill. Pedals are nice to accomodate driver height, especially at the reclining position of existing f-bodies.
edit: on a RWD car Traction / Stability control feature is a must as long as you can turn off and on.

2. How many people do you normally have in the car counting yourself? [1/2/3/4]
1-2
3. Do you ever use your f-body for grocery or other shopping? [yes/no]

7. Give only ONE or TWO short reasons for buying each of your cars (or just f-body if it is your only car).
I love the 4th gen trans am , and lkied the 98 so much I put the new front on mine . Couple cruising around in a car like mine with the top down ....not much compares on a warm summer night
The Bonnie has been in my family since new and is the most reliable thing I have ever owned . 140,000 with nothing but routine maintenace .
8. On the 5th gen; hatchback or trunk?
Trunk
9. On the 5th gen; aerodynamic like 4th gen or brick like CTS (or, if you rather, brick like most 1st gen based concepts)?
I happy mix of the 2 . Not bubbly like the 4th gen and not as hard edged as the CTS . The new Staurn Sky pulls this off perfectly .

No , I wouldnt own a 2 seater .

I want all the standards of today like power windows , locks ect. HIGH quality tweed cloth type seats that arent 2-tone . A BLACK not graphite interior choice , 6-disc in dash with MP3 and XM . I would get leather if it was high quality like the GTO's leather , dont bother with the cheap crap . Not much for fluff stuff , I wouldnt get nav. , paddle shifters ect. Remeber we have to shift , before the cupholder is designed
I and dont want ONstar !

Re: Survey: What do you use your F-body for?
1. What do you use your f-body for?
---- Everyday driver from March to November, other than being parked for a day or so before car shows.
2. How many people do you normally have in the car counting yourself?
---- Just me usually!
3. Do you ever use your f-body for grocery or other shopping?
---- Yes, it suprises me how much stuff you can fit in there!
4. Do you use your f-body more as a family car or more as your toy?
---- More as a functional car for myself, and a toy.
5. About how many hundred/thousand miles do you put on your f-body every year?
---- Roughly 8,000 miles a year.
6. Is your f-body your only car? If not, what is your other car(s)?
---- 1999 Grand Am for winter use, and for when the Camaro is at the speed shop getting go-fast stuff installed.
7. Give only ONE or TWO short reasons for buying each of your cars (or just f-body if it is your only car).
---- Bought the Camaro because it's a Camaro and I'm addicted to Camaros so I gotta have a Camaro!
---- Bought the Grand Am cuz I got a good deal on it and needed a winter car.
8. On the 5th gen; hatchback or trunk?
---- Trunk
9. On the 5th gen; aerodynamic like 4th gen or brick like CTS (or, if you rather, brick like most 1st gen based concepts)?
---- Aerodynamic, but edgy.
10. If there were a version of the 5th gen that was only a 2 seater, would you likely buy it instead of a Corvette or 4-seat Camaro?
---- No, 4-seater would be my preference.
---- It should have a great selection of options as standard equipment, but those options should be deleteable. A nice long list of options is always a good thing... more options for the consumer, and more places to profit.

'89 Thunderbid SC 5 speed: The most underrated & surprising car ever made. A reassigned Navy guy was selling when I was living in Hawaii, and after test driving it, I was blown away by it's handling and stunned that it was virturally as quick as my 5.0. When I came across another one someone was virturally giving away year before last, despite a new engine, tranny, and a whole host of other items, I pounced on it and restored it. What I love most about it is that not only does it outhandle my Z, or that it accelerates quicker as it's speeds incresese (like a passenger jet), but it's the only car I ever heard of that handles better the harder you drive it.

GPS navigation: Belongs on minivans, SUVs, and luxury cars, not sports cars.
Heated Seats: Again, nice in a regular car or truck, but if you need heated seats in a performance car, you've probally gotten too spoiled. What's next? Instantly chilled seats for those hot summer days?
Dual Climate Control: Say what??!!

Comfort/Entertainment items: IMHO anyone who needs an "entertainment" system in a sports car shouldn't be driving a sports car...PERIOD! H*ll, the gas guage in my 4th gen was installed for entertainment, because it doesn't accurately measure gas
. As far as "Comfort" items, great multi adjustable seats, a well layed out interior, a good air con & heater system, a top drawer stereo system. That and "entertaining" performance & handling. We ARE talking about a performance car here, right?? All this stuff adds weight and cost. Ask everyone if they want their Impala equipted & built as well as a $50,000 Cadillac, and 100% are likely to say yes. Yet, all that does is simply dumb down the Cadillac. IMO, many of the items you named dumbs down performance cars by making them heavier & more expensive. If you want more stuff on your Camaro, buy a GTO. If you want it equpted like a Cadillac or the family's SUV, buy a G35 or a BMW 3 coupe.

4. Do you use your f-body more as a family car or more as your toy? both
5. About how many hundred/thousand miles do you put on your f-body every year? 10k
6. Is your f-body your only car? If not, what is your other car(s)? 94 Jeep Cherokee, 96 Lincoln Mark VIII
7. Give only ONE or TWO short reasons for buying each of your cars (or just f-body if it is your only car). Jeep for utility, Lincoln for luxury, Camaro cause its fun
8. On the 5th gen; hatchback or trunk? Could be either, just has to be done well
9. On the 5th gen; aerodynamic like 4th gen or brick like CTS (or, if you rather, brick like most 1st gen based concepts)? sleek like the 4th gen
10. If there were a version of the 5th gen that was only a 2 seater, would you likely buy it instead of a Corvette or 4-seat Camaro? Possibly
I wouldn't want most of that stuff but climate control is nice, so is an electronic fuel economy display. Paddle shifters are nice on automatics but I wouldn't buy an auto.

Re: Survey: What do you use your F-body for?
We ARE talking about a performance car here, right?? All this stuff adds weight and cost. Ask everyone if they want their Impala equipted & built as well as a $50,000 Cadillac, and 100% are likely to say yes. Yet, all that does is simply dumb down the Cadillac. IMO, many of the items you named dumbs down performance cars by making them heavier & more expensive. If you want more stuff on your Camaro, buy a GTO. If you want it equpted like a Cadillac or the family's SUV, buy a G35 or a BMW 3 coupe.
I don't want it to be all luxuried out and lame like a Bimmer, but I would love for it to be my poor man's Ferrari. I mean come on... even some LED RPM lights integrated into the steering wheel like the Enzo would be awesome!
*note to GM* I probably wouldn't pay for that option... unless it came packaged with the paddle shifters
.

Re: Survey: What do you use your F-body for?
1. Fun car.
2. 1.
3. Yes.
4. Toy.
5. ~10,000. No clue, honestly, odometer doesn't work. Although it's not a daily driver anymore, I live in Texas and I'm always out cruisin'.
6. Nope. '97 Saturn SL1.
7. Camaro - It was something different. I hate fitting in, and there aren't many clean 2nd gens around. It was my first car.
Saturn - Daily driving purposes, mainly to school.
8. Either. I love my trunk, but also love 4th gen hatches.
9. Aerodynamic. But now they can combine both fairly well.
10. Doubtful.
11. More options (make sure they're optional).

Re: Survey: What do you use your F-body for?
1. What do you use your f-body for? [everyday driver/weekend fun car/ race car]
Everyday driver.
2. How many people do you normally have in the car counting yourself? [1/2/3/4]
Usually just me.
3. Do you ever use your f-body for grocery or other shopping? [yes/no]
All the time, it is the errand runner.
4. Do you use your f-body more as a family car or more as your toy?
Well since I don't have a family, I guess its my toy to tool around in town with and go back and forth to school.
5. About how many hundred/thousand miles do you put on your f-body every year?
About 11,000 miles
6. Is your f-body your only car? If not, what is your other car(s)?
Yes its my only car.
7. Give only ONE or TWO short reasons for buying each of your cars (or just f-body if it is your only car).
ONE:Its a rocket!!! Seriously its the fastest thing you can buy for the least amount of dough. TWO: Its dead sexy and looks like nothing else on the road.
8. On the 5th gen; hatchback or trunk?
Trunk, the hatchback has been played out for 20 years.
9. On the 5th gen; aerodynamic like 4th gen or brick like CTS (or, if you rather, brick like most 1st gen based concepts)?
I'd have to say swoopy, but don't make the windsheild and hood taper at such an extreme angle like the 4th gen.
10. If there were a version of the 5th gen that was only a 2 seater, would you likely buy it instead of a Corvette or 4-seat Camaro?
I think that this would seriously steal Corvette sales. I might buy it and use it as a toy if I had another car that could fit more people in it.

I think the Camaro should have a high quality interior like the GTO, but should make do with fewer thrills. Standard should be PW/PL/PM, CD player, full set of gauges, floor mats, manual seats with ***** for height and lumbar, and maybe a leather wrapped wheel and shift ****. Make leather, PS, aluminum trim, fancy stereo, and sunroofs optional. Don't even offer navigation, climate control, heated seats, etc.
I do think that automatic paddle shifters or steering wheel buttons should be standard though, because they actually serve a function for driving the car.
Everyday driver.

Creature comforts. RS is my race car, a 5th gen would be more of a nice weather daily driver.
