I guess its time to talk about Impala.

With Oshawa building Camaro's, will they also be able to build Impala on Wbody? Since LaX is going to Epsilon, there are no more other w bodies being built??
So what is going on? Will we be surprised come NYIAS?
With so much Camaro talk and Malibu talk, the focus has fallen off the Impala. What is GM's plan?

I'm wondering if GM really knows what they plan on doing at this point...

One rumor I've heard is that it will still go to Zeta, regardless of Bob Lutz' comment that future Zeta projects after the Camaro are on hold.

Another rumor I've heard is that it will remain on the W-body platform. Unless GM takes a bold approach with the styling and other upgrades, this will fail. The W-body is old, and the current model's styling is incredibly bland. If it stays on the W-body, it's gonna take some serious work to make it a competitor in the marketplace.

That's a really nice looking car. I wonder if they can offer it with the interior quality and feature content of the Mondeo at a reasonable price?

Good job Ford, Great looking car.

I will say it seems to have design cues from the current accord/integra and a little bit of saturn? The top body line around the windows looks NBS maibu-ish.

Impala won't be on Zeta. Most likely it will be on Espilon.

The most plausible thing I've heard so far is that there will be a premium Chevy sedan based on Camaro's Zeta which will be sold in lower volume than planned if it had been Impala.

There's those who are going to say a Zeta based Chevy sedan is deader than a doornail, but then again, they said the G8 coupe was nothing but computer code too.

Bottom line is that plans aren't nailed down solid until 12-18 months before production. For cars planned for 2012MY, that still leaves about a year and a half before things go concrete.

The interior quality of the FiveHundred...er...current Taurus isn't half bad, so I'd imagine that the new Taurus would at least be as good, though most likely better.

Looks like Ford might like to sell some cars again , for a mainstream sedan that looks great .

Good looking car ... not too bland or generic, but not too aggressive so as to alienate people. My only knock against it would be that nothing about it says "Ford" ... you could put almost any Asian nameplate on its nose and it would seem at home. Then again, given how Fords of recent years have looked, maybe that's not a bad thing.

I happen to think the original Five Hundred was a good looking car too, in an understated, Audi-esque kind of way. The Fusion grille pasted onto the Taurus makeover threw all that goodness out the window though.

Nice looking, but the proportions of the current car are bulbous and unnatractive, we'll have to see if that design holds up to being stretched over it...

Good looking car, I commend Ford on the quick refresh. That is what it takes to sell cars now a days.

How come we haven't seen the updated 2009 Ford Fusion yet? Did that get pushed back to 2010?

What would you think are the front runners for that higher volume impala's new name? Caprice? Bel Air? Fleetline? Biscayne? Something altogether new?
