Supercharged Silverado SS ???
Supercharged Silverado SS ???
In case anyone was wondering, it appears that there will be a Supercharged Silverado SS.
Should be announced in New York or thereabouts.
That's all I know, and I was given the OK to post it.

Then we oughta get somewhere in the neighborhood of 425-450hp out of GM in production.
Make sense?

And it somes with a 3yr/36k mile warranty too!
I "think" this is the kit that Lingenfelter helped develop and uses on the Vettes.

I wonder if this Supercharged SS is just a "concept" or is headed for production. There have been a few 400+HP Siverados out the last few years from GM, Hopefully this one will go into production soon and at a cheaper price than $40K.
Does anyone remember the Black Silverado with the flames on it from 3 years ag at the NYC auto show. I think it had a S/C V8

That makes sense! You can develop the supercharged version of the GenIV and that would lower the development costs of the Blue Devil Vette! Remember the rumors flying around say that it will either be supercharged or turbocharged. For a while, I was wondering how a business case could have been made for a supercharged C6 without another car to put that motor in.
my thoughts...
The Gen IV 6.0 which should be in the Silverado by 06 (Gen IV 5.3 goes in the Trailblazer in 05) is already making a conservative 400 HP in the new Vette. Assuming they add variable valve timing and 3 valve heads, 475-500 HP would easily be attainable with an N/A engine. Why would GM add a supercharger that would wreck fuel economy (what little is left) and add piece cost? Just playing the bad cop here

My Buick 3800 SC gets 24mpg highway avg, sometimes more...
My mom's NA Buick gets about 21mpg highway, with a LOT less ponies...
I'd like to see an SC 6.0L single cab, Silverado, lowered with 20" wheels and maybe an "SS" badge on there somewhere..?
Or give it a cool name, opposing the "Lightning", something along the "Vortech-Syclone-Typhoon" lines...Maybe "Hurricane"???(..a force to be reconned with...)Or "Volcano"..(..what happens when "the Rock" gets some serious heat...?) ..I don't know...?Something like that tho....

The supercharger in my Thunderbird SC, using late 80s technology get's some pretty astounding fuel economy.
The car has a bypass system that creates a vaccum that counters the drag of the blower when not needed. The supercharger simply recirculates it's compressed air over and over again while the intake simply goes from the throttle to the engine.
The bypass is programed to close enough when you step on the pedal or go up hills to give you just enough power that you don't notice you have a V6 pulling almost 2 tons (it actually feels more like a old big block or a really powerful small block). The bypass will snap shut completely when you floor it, smoking the tires off the line, and pulling like a 747 at takeoff till you back off (it pulls like crazy till you get over 135!).
A couple of other party tricks a supercharger car do is the freeway Grand Prix (simply punch the pedal and you're in the next town while other's are shifting gears or spooling up their turbo), facinating performance increases in very cold weather, and no performance drop at high altitudes.
The downside is that superchargers don't work very well when it's Arizona-in-August hot outside but it's still better than the NA versions.
In short, a supercharger doesn't affect mileage unless you get frisky with it. On government economy test cycles, you can have a supercharged engine get the same mileage as the normal asparated engine it's based on.... of course your actual mileage will vary.

Yea.. I was looking at the Silverado SS's and thinking about putting one of those magnachargers on.. I see the Radix intercooled one is now has a CARB #..
Another option is to have a nice 383 built.. You could probably sneak by any testing..
Funny that you mention it, cause yesterday I briefly went thru the numbers about getting one and modding it, while keeping the Camaro...
