Question style question about 5th gen Camaro

well it has been a while since i have been on this board.. i have checked in every once in a while to see how things are going but never really had any thing to say........ but i do now.... i love all the talk about the 5th gen camaro.. i cant wait to get one if they ever do build it... and while i really dont understand all the talk about the platform on which it could possibly be built..... i do understand style.... so here is my point in which i would like to make

every picture that i have seen of the possible 5th gen Camaro seems to look like a new version of the 1st gen.. which is great i love the looks and love the 1st gen cars as everyone does... but i would think that the next camaro would be an evolution of the 4th gen car... and since the last 5 years of the 4th gen camaro had the big mouth opening which was obviously a through back to the early 70's camaro. why would they not retro style a 5th gen camaro to the likings of the early 70's camaro.

it is just an idea. i am working on a drawing and hope to be done soon.. so when i am done i will post it. until then ..... tell me what you all think about the idea and maybe someone else could come up with some art too....

the 5th gen will not be retrp, but it will have cues from the past. (just like everyother Camaro generation, except a little more in this one)

I would love for it to actually "be" before we talk about what it will and will not be. What is the basis for saying it wont be retro, not that I want it to be retro, the fact that lutz said he's not doing the whole "retro" thing. Then what the hell does he call the SSR?

Or the upcoming HHR for that matter...

Re: style question about 5th gen Camaro

are they bringing back old cars, yes. but are they copying the styling from their time period no. the new mustang is retro, the ford GT is retro, but the new ssr isn't

Re: style question about 5th gen Camaro

number 77 first you say they will copy styling cues from the past . then in your second reply you say that will not take styling cues from the past cars.. now i am just confussed......... will they or wont they ??????????

but weather they do or they dont retro style the next camaro isnt my real question... i wont to know what people would think about the next camaro being retro styled to look more like the early 70's camaro. since the last 4th gen cars had the big mouth opening like the early 70's camaro instead of all the pictures we have seen where it looks like a modern day version of the 67 camaro

Just because the SSR isn't a photocopy of an old Chevy, doesn't mean its not retro. It is clearly a slightly updated take on a 50's era Chevy pickup.

Re: style question about 5th gen Camaro

well those working at GM obviously think differently. its going to have cues from older camaro generations, but its not gonna be retro.

Ahhh Semantics. so its gonna have cues from older camaros but not be retro..... So what you are saying is its going to be a Camaro? I'm glad.

The GT doesent strike me as retro because they havent made one since the last one and they felt the need to not change it. Good for them. The stang has progressed then went backwards, thats retro. The SSR is a new vehicle and genre designed after 50s style models. That's retro.

Picture this.... "The new Camaro is going to look like a 3rd gen but much more round and with 1st gen cues". Seems like the general shape of it to me. Wait for Guion or Red to post though before you take anyone's word for it...

Re: style question about 5th gen Camaro

I'd like it if they made the camaro look just like a 69 Z28 with hide-away headlights. It would be a lot better looking than the new mustang IMO.

What's the 5th gen going to look like?

Here's what's for sure:
*It's going to be a coupe, not a hatchback.
*It's going to be based on GM's upcoming "Zeta" chassis.
*The thick 'B' pillar is history, in favor of a green house simular to the last Mustang or new GTO.
*It's going to be more angular than the 4th gen was.

Here's some points to start with:
*The Chevy Nomad concept of 1999 started life as a Camaro idea.
*The Belair concept was a discarded Camaro design idea.
*The Chevrolet SS concept was a heavily disguised general look at the next Camaro's greenhouse shape.

Here's what's come in from sources who have seen the car:
*It looks wide and aggressive.
*It looks "badass".
*It looks alot like a Camaro should.
*It's rear looks alot like a widened version of the Belair Concept.
*It looks great, but it's roofline resembles the old Mustang too much
*"they're redoing the front end....AGAIN!"

Outside of it's looks:
*It will have a 5.3 that performs like the LS1.
*Subcontractors have already been picked, and are well into developing parts.
*It will have at least 2 different rear suspensions.
*It will be made alongside at least 2 other coupes.
*It will be out sometime during the 2007 model year (January 2006 to January 2007)

That's about all you're going to get anyone to say in a forum, unless they REALLY know you.

2 different rear end set ups? So we could see a live axle as well as IRS?

Swamped at work.

End of the fiscal year means audits, inspections, etc... not a fun time of year.

1st time I've been the point man for this stuff (got kicked upstairs when I moved to Monterey), so it's been b*lls to the wall both learning this stuff & carrying it out.

Since I tend to wind up here writing for hours on end when I stop by, I've been avoiding the place in order to deal with the workload. I also just finished restoring my Thunderbird SC, and made a Vegas run this past weekend.

I still stop by here sometimes in the evenings... when I'm not pub crawling.
