STS V and XLR V info inside.
STS V and XLR V info inside.
My reliable source that will remain unknown gave me a few little tips after some key questions asked about the STS V and XLR V.
Key points are:
1. STS V will use a variation (at launch) of the motor series that the CTS V is using currently. It will not be a supercharged NorthStar as was previously thought, at least at launch.
2. Key number I was told to remember was 428, as in hp, not ci (I asked). This was in earlier development, it may be more or less now.
3. XLR V will also use a variation of this motor series with even more horsepower. No number was given. But again will not be a V10, V12 or blown NorthStar at launch.
4. I inquired if it was an LS2 Vette motor, the reply was that it was more advanced with more technology. I replied with DOD, in which I was recieved a "Bingo". (Remember the Vette that was cruising around with DOD?)
All this info comes from an excellent source that has already driven a preproduction 2005 STS and said it was a peach to drive.

Interesting if true. I felt for sure that LS6 was in the CTS-V only because of packaging issues and that the other Cadillacs would get high-performance derivatives of the Northstar series. I hate to say it but luxury snobs want OHC engines, I'm not sure how the LSx series will fly in these cars.
Where does the Cadillac XV12 fit in? It's a given that it is headed into production, in something.....

I think an LS2 or any Vette based engine in the XLR is a mistake. I think it is important to make the Vette and XLR as different and distinct as possible.
S/C Northstar would be the way to go in both the XLR & STS

Mayb the "more advanced than LS2 motor" is the LS7?
I am pretty surprised too about this news as it doesn't make that much sense. The STS and XLR are more upscale than the CTS and thus you would figure they would have a motor that falls along those lines. Haveing said that, I wouldn't car if the engine had pushrods but then again, i will not be buying one due to lack of funds.

Id be willing to bet that the V-12 will be the premium STS and possibly XLR motor. Not the V spec, but the top of the line luxo-barge models. (If you can apply that to a car based on the Vette.)
IMHO the V series will retain V8s, whether forced air or not, simply because the motors are already there from the Corvette program. The V-12s will become the ultra-lux powerplants.
Id also like to see the top Cadillac model become something like a 7 Series-sized car, with a base V-12, and optional V-16 with full customizability, ala Bentley and the old Caddy V-16s. I really do want to see Cadillac become the Standard of the World again. Not some Mercedes-Benz/BMW type, lets see how many cars we can sell company. Just me though.
