STS Agressive Marketing

I just saw an STS commercial with the car leaving skid marks across the statement, "Only Imports Are Fun To Drive". Pretty headstrong for GM don't ya think?

Anyone have pics of the STS-V that was unveiled with the Z06 and C6-R?

Cool. Yes, not in GM's character.

Holy crap, it comes with an auto. I WILL be talking to my dad about that car. He's wanted a CTS-V for a while but won't buy it since it's a 6 speed. My mom doesn't like manuals. This info will be forwarded to him. Thank you!!

Re: STS Agressive Marketing

Not to detract, but I saw a Rent-a-Car commercial using the new STS(can't remeber if it was Avis, Enterprise, or Hertz)

The plot line went like this:
Dude is at the rental car place, says he is going to a high school reunion and needs to impress people.
So he rents the STS and all these nice looking women later say wow, seems like you are doing well. Or something like that.
Anyways it was a really stupid and inneffective commercial.

But I guess Cadillac is still going after the rental car business

Re: STS Agressive Marketing

Why does your 65K+ Caddy have to look exactly the same as your $30K Caddy...?

Other than that the STS-V is nice.

And so that we're not going too far off-topic: Yes, the Caddy ads are pretty cool.

Re: STS Agressive Marketing

Cadillac has been the hottest car company for 2-3 years now.

It'll be interesting to see how they keep the fire burning now that just about the whole new lineup is complete.

I wonder if they'll retain the Escalade name when the new one comes out, or if they'll switch to a 3-letter code, ala CTS, STS XLR, SRX.... They have said in the not too distant past that "Escalade" would probably survive, because of the appeal that the name has had.

They better not pull it like the kickass C6 commercial!

Re: STS Agressive Marketing

Interesting... but what's it going to compete with? The AMG E-class?

The Caddy has less power and less features, but a bit lower price, too.

I mean it's a damn cool looking car and all, but I don't understand why they have to make the interior and exterior look so damn similar to their much less expensive cars.

I don't know much about cars, but motors alone do not sell cars, GM... that much was obvious with the death of the f-body and the lackluster GTO sales. Even then the AMG E-class motor has a significant advantage anyhow.

Threxx, the STS interior looks very little like that of the CTS/SRX, which will be more like the STS interior next time around, I'm sure. (The interior has been the most criticized part of those cars, even though the materials are actually high quality - they just have some strange textures/shapes in an attempt to go along with the Art&Science theme)). And as far as similarity across vast price ranges, take a look at the current lineup of Mercedes-Benz interiors. Or, hell, Lexus interiors, for that matter. The GS is somewhat distinct, but the RX, LS, and ES are quite similar in overall appearance/theme, to my eye. Which is not really a huge problem, if the interiors are nice (which Lexus interiors are for the most part).

As for the STS resembling the CTS (95GRNZ), I'd say there is a pretty strong resemblance between a 3/5/7 Series BMW, or even more so between the Benz C/E/S-Classes. Hell, I can barely tell Volvos apart anymore. Would you agree?

Just my $.02.

BMW interiors look way too similar across their model line IMO... and very old-school at that.

The Caddy interiors do look similar to me, but also have a very akward look to them. Kinda like the new Gran Prix. Just doesn't really seem to flow. Looks more like a toy in some aspects than a 'cockpit'.

Benz and Lexus interiors all look very distinct, modern, and natural to me. The GS interior looks the most outdated of all their interiors IMO, then again considering it's 7-8 years old I guess that makes sense. The new GS' interior has a very nice and distinct look IMO.

I'm not sure about Volvo... I don't know them well enough to compare interiors.

That commercial encourages reckless driving therefore it should be banned.

Re: STS Agressive Marketing

You need to take a look at the STS's interior, and then the SRX, XLR, CTS, and Lade.
Then tell me they look similar.
As for the STS looking like the CTS, give me a freakin break.

The STS-V is going to be a killer car, offering performance of cars tens of thousands of dollars north of them.

Maybe it's just me, but I can definetely tell the apart the other cars you mentioned. Maybe I will be able to do that w/the Caddy's after a while, too, but currently there is no way for me doing that.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I'm not trying to diss Caddy, or anything, just stating my quite recent observation.
