How do you figure that? What is revolutionary about it? It's all been done, it has nothing new to offer but retro looks, which are obviously not new, or revolutionary. It's not even evolutionary.

Image wise, the SSR has DEFINATELY been worth the wait. It has been probably the best image booster to come through Chevrolet in 15 years.
Right on the heels of it's big image degrader. Gee, let's alienate a huge segment of the market and cut the F-body (which they could save if they would PUBLICLY COMMIT to it's return). Then we'll boost our tarnished image by producing a useless vehicle that will only actually be purchased by the same few who buy Prowlers.

Image boosters only work when they are produced in a timely fashion. The time is over for a big boost. GM will not recover their investment in this vehicle. The only real reason it is still in production mode is to save face.

And they'll sell every one they can produce..... Which adds a good chunk of money to the pot.

They will have to sell many, many thousands to put ANY money in the pot. They most likely will not even recover their investment. The fact is, they don't plan to, or it would not be a "limited production" vehicle, which unless priced accordingly, are $$ losers.

The SSR is a cool "Image Machine" for those who want a 2nd or 3rd vehicle to cruise to main street USA on weekends.
The same type of people who bought Prowlers. Yippee. That's was a hot selling car. NOT!

Personnally I LOVE the idea......
Good, buy one and enjoy it. You will definately be in an exclusive club. No offense meant, but when I see one of these retro rides and compare it to a customed version of the real thing, I just don't get why anyone would buy retro when the restored and/or customed original is so much more appealing, unique, and special.

I still say.....

This exercise is meant to celebrate and reward the truck division at GM.

Don't fool yourself...if it weren't for the truck division, GM would be in a world of hurt. GM was within weeks of Chapter 11 in the 90's and the truck division has been one of the only consistant profitable divisions.

If there had not been such a ground swell of approval by truck buyers at the auto shows, GM would hgave simply let this truck fade away. Truth is truck buyers wanted this truck! And I believe the truck division deserves this truck.
Personally, I think the truck screams GM truck building heritage and GM will get a TON of publicity and accolades for this truck.

I can't remember what moron originally theorized that this truck was a replacement for the f-body....but I'll guarandamnedteeya' it wasn't GM......and GM sureashell didn't try to appease f-body owners in the the execution of it either.....it is meant to be for the truck crowd...traditionally an older buyer than the f-body crowd.

Take it for what it is.....and it makes a little more sense.

I dont think they can pull the plug at this point. They should go ahead and build it, just get rid of that stupid *** spear that goes across the front and back.

I wish they would have used a different year truck to base it on. Most people have never cared for the looks of the late 40s early 50s cars and trucks of any automaker. Those were the ugly years, with few exceptions (49 Merc's can be made alright with a lot of body mods)

I just wish that GM hade done a handbuilt CAR along the Viper or Prowler instead of a truck, IMO.

Actually, it makes LESS sense. A design excercise? OK. Reward a division by producing a money pit project? Duh, stupid GM. You build flagship and attention getting vehicles to draw people to your LESS successful divisions. That's how you make money! GM is not fat enough to be able to afford to build a vehicle to 'reward' it's workers. They need to invest in the future, not reward the past. Sheesh, if GM doesn't pull it's collective heads out of it's ****, Ford and Chrysler are going pull more and more buyers away. A "feel good" project like the SSR is no substitute for good management.

I had this discussion with a guy yesterday, and he said, 'What about Chrysler and the PT Cruiser? It's got neat styling, but it's a useable, practical vehcle. The SSR is a factory effort at a show car, a near 0 practicality vehicle with limited marketability, and those always fail to meet the mark.'

I'm glad some of you like the SSR and I'm sure some will sell. But don't mistake the enthusiasm shown for it as intentions to buy it.

HOPEFULLY I will be proved entirely wrong and GM will make a killing on it. They sure need it.

4 years from now the Lightning should be going considerably faster than 12.9 stock. They already run low 13's stock.

From surveys from SVT, we Lightning owners have seen the future. It is bright indeed.

I don't know, I guess it is just me....... some of the proportions of the SSR just look odd to me.......??????

I suspect if it came with the 6 liter 345 horse V8, many complants would disappear.
