The funny thing is that I just saw an SSR on the road (first one) yesterday.

On SR 11 heading south away from Youngstown and toward Canfield....

It was Red...

Could it be that the SSR exists just to make the Hummer H2 seem cheap, quick and stylish? Nah.

Interesting, I see atleast 2-3 a day. All GM vehicles though. But they look real real good on the street. Very impressive when you see them moving and driving. They stand out quite a bit, esp the yellow ones. Top down looks sweet! They look so different than anything else on the road. Really and eye catcher when put in traffic with a sea of SUV's, pick-ups and sedans. While they may be priced too high they are atleast a cool vehicle and I'd be suprised if they didn't sell all that are made.

Agree completely. I'm not a fan of fat fenders... but I have to admit the SSR is growing on me and it really makes for a cool cruiser.

Don't get me wrong guys. I love the SSR and have since day one. I'm just not crazy about its steep price tag and excessive curb weight.

$40K+ for a 15 sec. pickup? No, thanks.

SSR would be an ok car/truck/thing if they shaved 400/500 lbs of the curb weight and gave it a real 5.7L LS1.

I mean why does this 2 seater thing with nearly zero utility weigh so much and have so little get up and go??? Other than being built on a truck platform.... but why?

Not that I really care too much, because the SSR is not something I would buy, but isn't this delay a little extreme? I'm almost positive that I saw the SSR concept for the first time, and the same detroit auto show where I saw the pt cruiser concept. Since then, the pt cruiser has been produced, new cruiser models introduced, and people have gotten bored of the whole thing, and the ssr is still not in production. I hope if gm is actually going to make a solstice, it won't follow the same timeline.

A few things to keep in mind.....

The SSR is a limited production vehicle......about 10K a year.....

It is not for everybody...it is a halo vehicle...and not everyone will like it.......

It is startling as to how much the production vehicle mirrors the concept vehicle......very few changes.

It is wise to delay shipping vehicles until any last minute problems are worked out.

I'm driving a red one...............I've driven Corvettes "on announcement day" (i.e. C5 and C4....also had an 82 Camaro prior to public introduction........) These cars got attention....but I have never seen ANYTHING get this much attention.........I watched a grown man walk into a street sign in Grosse Pointe a couple of weeks ago while I was driving by.........I had it on the Ohio turnpike and drove into a service plaza........9 cars followed me in.........no matter where I take it, people stare....follow you...give you the 'thumbs up' etc. One poor unfortunate in a Taurus was trying to get past me in the right-hand lane...was looking in his rearview mirror....and very nearly rearended a truck......

Even this morning, I parked in a Kroger parking lot.......came out to a dozen people wanting to know more about it.

How successful will it be? I don't know...but I know this.......I had a Commemorative Edition Corvette Convertible and a Z06 on display at the Texas State Fair........and also a Red SSR.........you could not get near the Red SSR........and this is the first time that anything seemed to eclipse the Corvette. I think it has something about it...an aura......that people my age really like. I'm REALLY surprised at the number of middle aged women that "just have to have one." ( I thought it would skew more to men......we shall see as they start to get shipped to dealers and delivered........)

Now...with that said......still love my Camaros and Firebirds!

Did you have it on Ohio SR11 at any point? Maybe the red SSR I passed was you!

I'd bet if you had a C6 the Corvette would have gotten more attention. I think the simple reason that the C5 shape has been around since 1997 and the SSR is just hitting the streets is a huge reason why the SSR was getting more attention.

Not trying to bash the SSR, just making a point.... the SSR is not my thing, but I can see where some people would like it... and it is different.
