just thinking you wanted a bare bones racer back in the 60's you optioned the car that they sold but didnt really market..why not do that now..they got the trailer hauler SS..and why not give the striped model 1LE optioned truck to the parts order list. and GMPD.get it out to the people who REALLY want a fast truck and there you go..instant SS beater..and no taking the SS limelite..
Just buy the 2wd 2500 regular cab with the 4.10 axle. It comes with the 6.0 V8 as well.
It may have a little less torque, but lack of AWD and the extra weight of an extended cab should smoke the SS in acceleration. All GM trucks have a governor limiting top speed to 110, so there's no difference in top speed.
With the extra $10-12,000 you save over the SS, I'd imagine you could probally do more than just a few things to boost performance even more, and upgrade the suspension .

you think GMMG might do a SS truck but on the Single Cab Short bed model? That would really own with a H/C package or a 427 and some really good suspension upgrades, and some cool Wheels!!

The W/T is about as stripped as you can get.
