SS fatigue

Has SEMA....with it's boatload (truckload) of SS trucks given anyone "SS fatigue"?

By that, I mean , have we already been so overexposed to SS models that most of us don't want to buy....that we may not give the"SS" name any consideration next time.

And what about Pontiac GXP?

How long before we grow weary of that?

Will there be a GTOGXP?

Will we have a GTO vs GXP debate?

Interesting...

I do think that if "SS" is used on basically every Chevy, it may risk become a 'generic term'... kind of like how "GT" or "LS" gets slapped onto just about every model from all kinds of car companies...

Lightbulb

I can't wait to buy a Malibu Z06.

Agreed.

SS should be considered 'elite.' This can be achieved by 'limited' exposure.

It seems as if Chevy is positioning "SS" to be the "everymans" performance model on many/all their car/truck lines.

That's fair enough...that's what SS has always been about anyway.

But I think they overexposed the whole truck aspect of it at SEMA.

Maybe if they would have given us a couple of SS trucks and a couple of SS cars.

I can also understand why we wouldn't see too many SS cars though.

The Malibu is a lame duck. It's a little too early for Impala. Maybe Cavalier doesn't fit the SS image.

What's left, Monte Carlo? Would it have killed them to have a real ***** out Monte Carlo SS?

Z284ever,
You have done a great job of expressing a touchy point in a politically-correct manner. In short, yes - I agree with you.

I can't help but think that the idea for this thread may have come from a recent post in another thread. While the delivery may have been a bit sublime , this was the message that the author of that post was really trying to get across. To me the SS is hugely different from say Z/28, Z-71, or Z-24 type suffixes. "Z/28" has, and will always, conjure up memories of tire-shredding Camaros in my mind. I imagine an "SS" as similar, but could have been a Nova, Chevelle, or other model besides just a Camaro.

In recent times it seems like there has been more of a push to sell vehicles by relating them to "old performers" of yesteryear. I would rather see a carmaker create an all-new suffix for all-new performers, like maybe a Trailblazer T-XR (Truck - eXperimental Racer) or Trailblazer RTS (Race Track Special) or something. Maybe it's the "ol' car guy" coming out in me again, I don't know. I just have a mental problem with starting to see SS behind every model coming out. I guess it's GM's call and I'll have to go with it, but I still feel like the OLD SS models are suffering a little bit of loss of that "majic something" the SS stood for.

Just my two-pence.

BTW - has anybody else out there noticed the Toyota Racing Division stickers on the back of their SR5s? The Toyota - TRD, NOT A GOOD CHOICE!
My 4-yr-old daughter (the picture of innocence ) is learning to read right now using phonics - this was her conversation with my wife and I at a stoplight last weekend...
"Mommy, I know what that truck is..." (pointing to a truck on our left)
"Really!? What is it darling?" (expecting TOY - OH - TUH, or something because my wife only sees the front fender...)
"It's a TURD.", she says!
I was ITF, LMAO and my wife gets red as a beet!
Had to explain to the wife where TRD was and what happened. You just had to be there.

The current Monte SS is as big of a Joke as some of the SS trucks.
