Re: SRT Charger pics and Police Charger info

Another market GM has walked away from...the high persuit market. That Hemi Charger is a good bit slower than the Ls1 z28's that were used for persuit. Kinda reminds you of the whole crown vic vs caprise thing and how GM discontinued the Caprise even though it was dominating the competition. Almost 10 years later and the CV is still slower. GM has the potential to easily dominate the police market, but they'd much rather supply police stations with Fwd wimpalas and Tahoes than offer a serious Rwd Sedan and coupe.

The new charger is a sub-14.0 sec car right? Unless i'm wrong, the fastest time i've seen for the 300c is a 13.9. Pretty quick for a 4 door, but i kinda expected more out of it.

SRT-8 looks much better than the standard Charger, but the lack of manual option and the 4,160lbs of flab are serious turn-offs for me. If only we could get a standard Hemi Charger with 2 doors less, a manual tranny option, with weight figures south of 3,500lbs, and a stick price of around $26k .

That would be a Challenger and hopefully they are working on that(rumors say they might be).

But I think this looks tons better than the regular Charger and I'd consider buying this. I'd problem pop for the more elegant 300C or an SRT-8 Magnum but it definately looks better. They should have gone with those looks from the get go.

Eh...I want a cuda with a 6.0 hemi in it. To bad DC thinks the coupe market is dead.....shhhhhhh.....dont tell the Ford boys that! They just upped mustang production from like 175 to 192,000 units.

Re: SRT Charger pics and Police Charger info

I hate the fact that Dodge bastardized the Charger name with a 4 door(Charger has always been a coupe ) I like the look, except for the hideious front clip. If they had stuck with the Magnum front clip, I would be drooling over it.

I hope they can sell the police package at a comparable price to the Crown Vic. If the price is comparable, then Dodge should basically own the market. I also think that the Hemi charger makes cars like the B4C Camaro and Police Mustang irrelevant. The Charger is fast enough to catch most everything on the road. I also find it funny that the V6 Charger has more horsepower than the V8 Crown Vic. Since Ford has sat on their a@@ because they owned the cop car market, they are going to get blown out of the water. Prediction: Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Town Car all dead for model year 2008.

It is exactly what John Moss and his team did for the Impala SS! Amazing what a little black paint can do!

I like how the car hasnt come out and yet dodge already has special editions lined up and all sorts of upgrades from the base model. Gives you so much more to get excited about. Now if they just listen to the fanbase and put the 6 speed in, it'll be golden.

While you might not necessarily agree with it you have to at least understand where they are coming from if they want a car that's truer to it's heritage and that includes the amount of doors it has. If the Camaro came back as a FWD sedan with that LS4(I think that's the FWD designed V8)in it would you think that was a Camaro?

Re: SRT Charger pics and Police Charger info

no I would not...

..but the idea of a muscle car is stuffing in a huge HP motor into what was basically a family car at the time...be it a 2 door or 4 door...most models you could get the high HP engine in the 4 door model too just not the SS, R/T or GT trim package..That is why I say it is a muscle car..I consider the Muscle car of today the 90's Impala SS, Mercury Merauder and so on..they tried with what they had.this Charger is topping that off. it is in heritage what a muscle car is.what does it have that a muscle car didnt have (besides the 2 extra doors).I think alot of people think in elitist terms what a muscle car should be....now if you really want to pick at straws the Camaro was not a big rutin tutin Chevelle or Buick..it was and is a ponycar..like the Mustang..so no the Camaro through its almost 40 yrs should not be a 4 door..

Heck its a charger....buy some fold down bucket seats from a Viper, weld the back doors shut and shave the door handles...there is your two door charger..just put the 01 number on it while your at it...2door or 4 door it is a muscle car in all parts of what it stands for..plain and simple..

Re: SRT Charger pics and Police Charger info

I just flipped through my May issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines and saw MAYBE 2 4 doors(I didn't count cars in the ads). The alleged 4 doors were in an article about 1960's USCA racing. I don't think that the cars are 4 doors, but in some of the photos you can't tell because it doesn't show the side of the car.
