Some insider Charger scoop...maybe.
Some insider Charger scoop...maybe.
Got this off the ALLPAR monster Charger thread......
This was posted by Payman in Car and Driver forums, take it as you will....
Everyone knows that the new Charger has been the most secret thing since Area 51. With less than 6 months till launch, there still isn't any kind of spy pic circulating the net. Well, I got some tantalizing info the other night from an aquaintance (brother's friend, actually) who is a manager at the Brampton plant. He didn't spill much, and was getting irate with my questions. He did say that he was right in the thick of Charger tooling, and that the car will come out in the spring (we already knew this, right)? Take the following info any way you want it, but another Brampton plant employee at the Dodge forums mostly agrees with what he told me:
1. The Brampton plant is at full capacity, and the Charger, or at least some production, will be built at another plant in Eastern US. (Delaware)???
2. The Enforcer police package production is in full swing at the Brampton plant.
3. There are numerous Charger models, including 250 hp V6, 340 hp Hemi and 425 hp Hemi SRT-8, in BOTH 4 door and 2 door models.[:0]
4. The car is obviously built on the 300/Magnum platform, but looks VERY different.
5. It appears to have the fastback rear end of the '99 prototype, although with sharper creases.
6. It has the coke bottle rear flanks that is a signature of the old Charger.
7. The beltline is not high and straight like the 300, but slopes downward in a graceful arc from rear to front.
8. It has the angular side scoops of the "popular hottrodding" mock up.
9. The front end slopes downward further than the 300, and culminates in a front end similar to the 2005 Mustang's.[:0]
(This would mean an upper leading edge more forward than the lower).
Remember, take this info with a grain of salt. I'm pretty confident that this info is accurate according to the info I was able to glean from this aqauintance...I hope he's right because this sounds like one KICK butt Charger!

Re: Some insider Charger scoop...maybe.
Sounds like a picture I have seen here.
About half of those things already have been known. There have been a few that have said that there have already been Chargers built, but only at night and under tight security. It sounds like they updated the '99 Concept to fit on a LX chassis.
edit: Found where they might produce the Charger and some extra LXs, at Newark Assembly.

Re: Some insider Charger scoop...maybe.
I usually dont keep my cars for that long. After driving my GTO i have decided that I cant get a smaller car (interior). I was going to wait for the New GTO in 07 to replace my car but now it looks like it will be between these 3 cars.
2007 GTO
Charger Coupe
300 C Coupe SRT-8
I really hope that the Charger gets a coupe.

Re: Some insider Charger scoop...maybe.
1. The plant is at almost full tilt, but Chrysler is expecting some tapering off by year's end.... but then again Chrysler also expected the 300 & Magnum to sell about half or so of what they are actually currently selling too. I also heard about another plant being considered, but I think it's too early to say where just yet.
2. It's the Dodge SXT that's being currently offered to police departments, NOT the Enforcer. These are "special service" cars that have some decontented items. These cars are NOT equpted for high speed pursuit or highly demanding use!
The Enforcer wil be out for the 2006 model year (meaning sometime after January). These cars will have the new hi-po brakes, unique parts and items (ie: a column shifter, rear door lock override, non-roll down rear windows, etc...), and alot of heavy duty parts (ie; Alternator, battery, etc). Again, the Dodge Enforcer isn't in production, a decontinted SXT for police use is.
3. Charger will have the same engine lineup as the 300. The 2 door (assuming it's been given the go-ahead) won't be out till at least late next fall at the earliest.
4. Correct. The Charger is NOT a 300 clone in any way (though it does share the Magnums dash & seats).
5. There is alot of the '99 Charger's styling in it. Especially around the rear door and C pillars.
6. (See above)
7. High? sort of. Straight? No.
8. Don't know, can't say yet.
9. Hood does slope downward more than either the Magnum or 300.
Some more items to consider that wasn't mentioned by this source:
a) Chrysler is going to aggressively market this thing to buyers like US. They are specifically going after people who might have bought hi performance F-bodies in the past, but need more room now that we're older and have a family, but still like to have the meanest car on the streets.
b) Chrysler is going to race this thing. That means it's body is going to be entirely different & more aerodynamic than the 300. To give you a jump off point, it's going to be compeating with Monte Carlos, and it's going to at least be as swoopy as Intrepids were.
c) The 6.1 will be offered from the start. Get your orders in now.
d) Word is the car will be slightly shorter and lighter than the 300/Magnum.
We will have ALOT more info on the Charger within the next 30-60 days.
BTW: The Dodge Enforcer will be present for the Michagan State Police testing. It's expected to establish a series of new performance & braking records for Police sedans, blasting the old ones set by the LT1 Caprice.

I was expecting a brick shaped car like the 300, its GREAT news that its actually going to resemble the '99 Charger concept and Intrepids swoopyness. That is exactly what I wanted. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people jump ship when this thing hits the streets, if Chevy doesn't come out with a CAMARO concept soon.

You should be able to pick up a 4dr Charger by late March/early April. The 5.7 will be from the go, but I have heard that the 6.1(srt-8) will not be available until later next year. The 2dr version of the Charger, that might be the rumored Charger Daytona, [b]will/b] be seen at the Daytona 500!
The 2dr "Charger" version will not be available early until 06. There is also a 2dr 300 version that is rumor to be a convertable, along the lines of the 300N convertable and available late, late in 05.
guion, managers at the Newark Assembly have already taken several tours of the Brampton plant. If they overflow production to anywhere it is rumored that is where it will happed. FWIW, the Enforcer will be come on into production this fall.
