Solstice turbo/sc car at launch ?
Re: Solstice turbo/sc car at launch ?
I had read somewhere that Lutz said there will be a 200hp engine upon launch. Perhaps the supercharged 2.0 from the Cobalt/Ion? Would be nice to have about 240hp on tap.
Re: Solstice turbo/sc car at launch ?
A very well known shop (patriot performance) has stage 1 and 2 ported Ecotec heads and cams. It would be nice to have a low compression rwd 4 cyl set up for boost from the factory. Swap the blower for a good turbo set-up......
I think its a good thing that GM is going to dabble in the Compact crowd with something that pushes not pulls the car.

Re: Solstice turbo/sc car at launch ?
I dont think holding back is a bad idea. No one has a problem with Ford when they release model after model, but when its GM's turn then they are stupid and why bother?
Without turning this into another Mustang thread, save the power for later on.

If this 200 HP is NA, then the compression ratio will be high, I would think at around 11.
There were ECOTECs pushing 700HP, boosted, with pretty good reliability. How much PSI is SAAB ecotec pushing?

The purpose of performance models of any car is to create intrest in the car. The Solstice will sell very well, & have lots of intrest the 1st year, so it's not a problem.
Also, and probally the bigger reason, is that there is a team that's assigned to each car line. The 1st year, that team is busy getting the car out & trouble shooting, so there really isn't much time to screw together a performance package till after the car is out.

and then the AWD GXP G6 will probably be another year later. The problem with the performance G6's is that the competition will have been out with similarly performing products for 3 years+
Re: Solstice turbo/sc car at launch ?
I think it hurts the Solstice to not release the hi-po version. This is a car that has a great platform and really needs the power. My wife loved the car at the Auto show but doesnt want to take a step down from her current car (2003 Neon SRT-4) So, if the Solstice doesnt have a tubo or S/C version 18 months. We will go to a car that does.
