solstice GXP

You know, I think it might just be my first convertible!

Hopefully Mazda will respond with a 2.3L turbo-powered Miata.

Either one is going to rock... 2-seat convertible you can take on a weekend trip, enough power and RWD to be fun in the straight line, turbo so power upgrades should be fairly easy, and decent handling so you can take it to the autox/road course, all for under 30k!

But only one will be ugly . . .

Agreed, though, on Solstice GXP. It's my next daily driver.

Re: solstice GXP

Give me the saturn version with an attractive lease rate and I might get one to replace the audi when its lease is up in 18 months.

As long as you travel alone or reeeallly light. Have you seen the cargo space when the top is down?

I like the Saturn better and hope to have one once my travel schedule settles down, even though I'm still pissed at how they're gouging us Canucks on the price. I just haven't decided whether it's worth it to wait for the turbo model or not

I'm sure Mazdaspeed Miata will pack the popular 2.3L turbo engine. It produces 270 or so HP in 6, and 245 HP in 3. I would estimate around 250 HP for the Miata.

Re: solstice GXP

Depending on how the Mazdaspeed Miata turns out, I would take a pretty long look at it. I really liked what I saw of the new Miata at the recent car show here. The Solstice was ok; maybe the new GXP might do it for me.

I saw the Sky there as well. It was rope off, but you could pretty much stand next to it. The Sky's interior doesn't look anywhere near as cheap as the Solstice's, which I found to be pretty strange. A Saturn with a better interior than a Pontiac.

Okay, day back soft luggage only then. What's with GM and throwing gas tanks in trunks anyway?

I'd prefer to wait for the hard top myself.

After seeing one first hand at the auto show, it is definitely a sweet car.

Re: solstice GXP

The NC MX-5 has been a huge letdown for the hardcore miata guys. Check out the miata forums, the NC is heavy, lots of body roll, handling not up to par, etc. It's just not a Miata any more.

I've seen a more than a few posts about people intending to get the NC dropping out and deciding to get Solstices. Solstice might be a bit hefty, but atleast it's got the handling and suspension the MX-5 doesn't.

I have really been eyeballing the Sky, saw it the local auto show last month. Love the exterior styling, love the interior layout, especially with the red leather accents and piano black center stack = very upscale looking interior.

Can't wait to test drive one.

The new MX-5 is barely heavier, and I haven't heard of one person complain of body roll. If I bought a new Miata, the stock suspension wouldn't concern me anyway, because I would replace it all with good aftermarket stuff. With a full good aftermarket suspension setup on the Miata and the Solstice, with equal power, my money is on the Miata. 400lbs is 400lbs.

Re: solstice GXP

I love both the Sky and Solstice, but I must say being that these are American cars I'm suprised they don't fit American sized guys, even if they are small. When I was at the L.A. show in Jan. I sat inside the Solstice and had to get out as soon as I got in, just absolutely no room(I'm 6'6"). Most cars aren't that bad, but most lose a seat.
