Solstice 1LT
1 word .....Mallet
If you coulda afforded a brand new 02 SS or WS6 , its likely you can afford to ship Mallet a new solstice or sky . Be patient , then pick it up with a LS2/6-speed and still have the window sticker and plastic on the seats . A 4.8/5.3 swap would be even cheaper . And it does look like it shoulda been there in the first place and has a full warranty to boot .
If thats what you really wanted

It sure did. Carbon fiber everything to keep weight in check, Brembo brakes, aftermarket suspension pieces....sounds very production pheasable, especially for under a Corvette price!
That's almost a 3700 pound Solstice before you start hacking it up.

A stock Solstice weighs just under 3,000 pounds, and the drivetrain swap added about 700 pounds to our car's girth, so a lot of thought went into a weight-loss program. The Jenny Craig solution was many carbon-fiber body panels, plenty of lightening holes drilled where there were no structural issues, and the removal of anything that was deemed not absolutely necessary.
Which is exactly why it shouldn't be done. A factory V8 Solstice goes against what the car is and why it was created in the first place.
This has been pretty much beaten to death. I think GM is right on the money with where the Solstice and Sky are positioned. Let the megabuck tuners have fun with V8 Kappas....It's more important that GM show their skill in other areas besides throwing their already proven small blocks into everything.

I am suprised you older guys are so against a light car with a v8 driving in a straight line.
Makes me wonder what he old guys said back in the 60s.
Naw wouldn't weight that much, a solstice weighs almost 3,000 lbs with its drivetrain in place, the LS7 drivetrain weighs 700 lbs, I'd say it probably only added maybe 300 pounds give or take relative to the original weight, so LS7 solistice with no weight reduction probably only weighs 3200 to 3300 lbs.

Still, I just don't really see a point in a $30,000+ V8 powered Solstice/Sky. This is supposed to be an entry level, European-style sports car.
Right now there is a 4cyl 260hp/260tq turbocharged engine in the Solstice GXP. Why doesn't GM just opt out for the Vortec 4.8L V8? It has 295hp/305tq. It would put the Solstice 0-60 in ~5 seconds and shouldn't cost all that much more. It could be marketed as a V8. If we could really strip it down we could maybe get it to $22k? Essentially, it'd become a poor kid's Camaro.
Whadayathink?

Why don't you get a stripped, hose out, 4.8L, 5 speed manual, Silverado? You can get it for quite abit less than $22K.
