So you guys DON'T like the SS Concept?!
So you guys DON'T like the SS Concept?!
I know I'm late on this one, but I've only just seen actual pictures of the thing (latest R&T mag). I LOVE it! What a kick-*** 4-door concept, as good as that Dodge Charger concept car, maybe better. They even made the ill-conceived horizontal-bar-in-the-grill "Chevy" styling element look OK.
Of course, unlike 99% of the auto-buying public, I actually LIKE my performance cars to be LOW. Everybody else seems to think the higher they sit, the better (ewww). That and other reasons (seems like everybody else actually likes the current all straight lines/developable surfaces/constant radius arcs/big circular fender flares trend seen in the new Mustang and other "neuveau" designs) probably means this SS will be a total failure, if it even makes it to market. More's the pity.

I think it will look better when its not a modified Corvette chassis and last minute body job, prototype cars like this never end up looking the same when they're done, although it wont be easy to get right.
It's got potential IMO, definitly needs to lose th e the 4 door look if its a camaro, but a 4 door chevelle type car would fit in GMs lineup perfectly.

I didn't mean to imply I didn't like the current styling, quite the opposite. I like it because it's NOT like the new Mustang, new T-bird, Audi TT, New Beetle.
It looks like a long, low, 4-door Chevy FERRARI!

GM has never built a real sports sedan, and it's about time. BMW has offered a 4-door M3, so I think a 13.2, 107 mph sedan that looks like a Maserati to be a great idea. I think the SS would be a big hit--so long as it's "right" from the opening bell--a few recalls and other faux pas can kill anything.

Unfortunately, the SSR-style nose is pig ugly. Chevrolet should nix the chrome crossbar, especially in any car with sporting pretentions. I know they're trying to establish a styling trademark, but it really looks awful.
I like the fact that GM is still toying with a long, low and wide look. Compared with cheesy three-box Ford 427 concept, this car is a revelation. I doubt it will see production, but I hope the SS shows the way forward for performance car styling.
Let's just hope they de-chrome the snout!
I like the SS alot, It's not perfect yet. After all it is a quickly assembled prototype, but I think it has a lot of potential. GM can now go back and finish it up right. Hopefully we'll see it someday.
Actually, as a UPS Delivery Box the 427 Ford looked appropriate at NAIAS. The SS was very nice but less so as a UPS Delivery Box.
I love the long, low, racy look of the Chevy SS sedan. I hope it is the direction for the next RWD Chevy performance sedan. I wasn't much impressed by the 427, it seemed to lack inspiration.

Here's the usually reliable site where I found the information:

I guess this begs the larger question: could buyers accept a 4-door Camaro? After all, the Mustang already approaches the packaging of a sedan, and will be based on a sedan chassis in its next iteration.
The SS Concept looks awesome, its just the shot in the arm that Chevy needs to boost its car line up. There has been a big whole in the line up since '96 when the last of the ImpalaSS rolled off the line. If the performance is going to match the looks this car would put Chevy back up front in the sports sedan market.
The current Impala Sport is pethetic.
The only complaint I have is with the interior, its alittle to concepty for production.
Chevy has put so much into their truck line there are huge hole in their car line up with the missing B-Body and F-Body. I hope they do something quick. B-Body has been gone for 7 years now. Its high time for a RWD sedan. I hope we won't have to wait 7 years for our Camaro to return. But something tells me since there is no current plans at GM is going to be a long haul before the Camaro will be back. I am thinking 2010 if we are lucky.

I"m on record as liking it .... a lot ... especially the photochopped 2 door versions.
I'll get excited about it when it shows up in a showroom. My beef with GM is that too many concepts get shelved, and the ones that do get the green light take forever to get to market.

There is just no way that a Camaro should ever have more than 2 doors, that just goes against everything that the car is and ever was, it would be the same as going fwd with it. It would cease to be a Camaro and become something else, something none of us would want.
