While I agree that the compass (built off of Caliber's platform) is an abomination of the Jeep name, it will sell well and make profit. And at the end of the day, that is what DCX cares about. Jeep/dodge has some interesting vehicles coming over the next 4 years...

It'll be interesting to see if or how well it sells/

To me it looks 'chunky' or 'clunky', I really can't put my finger on it. Almost like an oversized RC car, which upon reflection, may be a good thing considering it's target market (young males mostly with outdoor lifestyles or wanting to look like they have an outdoor lifestyle).

I really, really hope the same people who say the H2/H3 are "not Hummers" or even the new GTO is "not a GTO" will criticize the living hell out of this move. Just to be consistent, you know. IIRC, didn't Jeep show TWO vehicles based on the Caliber? *looked it up* Yes, this Compass and the Patriot are both based on the Dodge Caliber (Neon replacement).

Can you imagine the outcry if GM built a new Hummer based on the Delta platform (Cobalt/Ion/HHR platform)?

The concept of the Patriot was built off of the Caliber's platform, but it actually was a concept of the next gen of a current nameplate.

To me this is a little like apples to oranges for your example...BUT, doesn't Jeep always say that all their vehicles are "Trail Ready"?!?

It's a good thing DCX axed Plymouth. They clearly didn't need the extra brand

Yes, they do say they are "Trail Rated" (a made up marketing term). That is mainly what I was getting at. Why would it be apples to oranges? GM wants Hummer to be very much like Jeep, an authentic suv brand, only even more desirable. Jeep has always prided itself on the capabilities of their vehicles (they had to make a big deal about it when the Liberty came out, because some of the purists were mad about the independent front suspension). Hummer is a little more elite and low volume than Jeep right now, since it is still a growing brand. But I think GM and DCX basically have similar visions for those divisions (check out the new Jeep Commander).

Maybe apples to pears?

I'm still hopping for a Hummmer style Coupe similar to the Batmobile in the recent batman...

Agreed, I like how it looks. If they make a push into WRC with it with an STi type image, it could work.

I can see that "crossovers" are going to be the next annoying market trend.

This thing does look a like a slammed Jeep that has some Focus rally car DNA. Not sure it really fits the Jeep heritage, but as someone else said, yeah it will probably sell.
