So my friend just bought a Cobalt SS
So my friend just bought a Cobalt SS
It's an N/A 2-door coupe with an automatic though.
He said, "I don't know how to drive stick so I couldn't get the S/C'd one"
Everyone learns how to drive stick but it's all good.
Anyway a very beautiful car IMO, very sleek design! Streamline but doesn't demand attention. Trunk is huge, cool pioneer subwoofer, gorgeous interior, leather seats, great build quality etc.
Makes me regret not buying the SS S/C'd in some ways except resale for when I want a Cadillac.
So IMO Chevy has built a great entry level car...now it's just too bad nobody knows it.

Re: So my friend just bought a Cobalt SS
My buddy bought a Black SS/sc'd one with the smoked wheels.
I drove the s/c'd PA-Ultra to work friday, b/c he always leaves work in a hurry and I wanted to see how it do against my sc3800. I couldn't get beside him, but I managed to get behind him at a red-light.
We both left hard, he'd pull a little on me, but I'd gain some back between shifts(not much tho), then he'd pull a little more...by 3rd he was pulling me pretty hard!...I did notice that the fuel map is fat on the bottom of each gear, under boost...nice black plooms from the tailpipe until the rpms climbed.
Some better tuning, and a less restrictive muffler, and a CAI, should make a big improvement over stock.
I'm getting a Pulley this week, and fabbing my own CAI, and I'll try him again soon! (My PA-Ultra ran a 15.74@87 previously)

NA SS cars are cool too....I own one!
They should have made auto an option on the S/C SS---just for people that want it.
My NA 5 speed SS just hit 15.1 @ 93mph with just a INJEN short-ram intake.

Re: So my friend just bought a Cobalt SS
There are quite a few GM vehicles out or on their way out that I've found to be impressive, but the Cobalt just isn't one of 'em. The interior still seems cheap and in some areas poorly assembled, and the steering and trans seem akward. Don't get me wrong... it's not a bad choice in the segment and it's a HUGE improvement over the cavalier, but I just don't think it's 'there' yet. Next gen, please?
Re: So my friend just bought a Cobalt SS
mid to hgih 15's for an auto---it really hurts the performance. GM needs a 5 speed auto.
Cheap interior---not in my eyes!
I came from a 87 Mazda 3232 and before that an 88 Camaro--the Cobalts interior blows them away. Yeah the Mazda 3's is at touch nicer--but that new Civic is gross

Yup, I like the way the Civic's interior looks and the material quality is definitely nice (a big step up from the previous gen, even). But I can easily see how some people may not like the layout/look.

I haven't been in the new Civic yet; have only seen pics. But the Cobalt's fit/finish is quite nice, imo, especially for the price range. The previous Civic had hard, glossy plastics (and rattles galore). Most cars in that price range use hard plastics; you get what you pay for. As long as the pieces line up nicely, LOOK good/styled to your tastes, and don't squeak/rattle, who cares if the top of the dash is a little harder than in a Buick or Lexus? The parts that you touch regularly should feel nice (switches, stalks, buttons, *****, hvac vents, other controls). But I never touch my dash unless I'm cleaning it, so who cares if it is a little harder than an LS460?

Re: So my friend just bought a Cobalt SS
Even compare an 8 year old Accord to a Caddy/Olds of the same age and you can see the difference even if the Caddy/Olds MSRP'd for more and is a "higher class"
