So the G6 coupe is pretty odd looking in person...

I have seen this car around campus many a time, and I have to say that it really just looks weird. I suppose getting people to talk about your styling is better than not mentioning it, but everyone I know who has seen it has the same response, "That just looks really...weird". That kind of teardrop look to it, I just don't know. I'm not getting used to it at all, everytime I see it I stop and look. It draws attention at least. :P

Thoughts?

It doesn't strike me as odd, maybe because I have seen so many of them around my area. Its a nice little refined car and wouldn't mine having one someday, as long as its the GTP model.

The problem is that its wheelbase is way too long for the size of the car. It puts the back wheels too far back on the body which gives it ungainly proportions. Aside from that I like it, but I don't think I could get over the weird proportions.

I agree on the coupe but I think the Sedan has better lines, I don't know if it is the extra door or the roofline but it seems to flow nicer.

You mean it does not have huge overhang? Some would see that as a plus.....................

I love this car. For the first time ever its a FWD car that actually makes me want to buy it.

Still holding out though for the future on faith though Plus my truck loan will be paid off by next year.

At first I thought it was very odd looking.... very Solara like, especially in the rear...

But, I've warmed up to it quite a bit.

I haven't made it to a Pontiac dealer for a while, though... haven't seen one in person.

Like I mentioned a while ago, my father-in-law's friend who is into classic cars, and restores Corvettes... and really has little interest in new cars has raved about the G6 Coupe's styling.... I found that to be interesting.

I saw a g6 coupe at a dealership last week, and I have to agree, there is something odd looking about the shape. Maybe this is going to be a first impression, and I will grow to like the car. For me, it is definitely the side profile. The roofline looks odd.
There is a big problem with its pricing in Canada too. The one I saw on the lot was a well equipped gt model. The sticker price was $36000 Canadian ($29900 US).

Uh yeah...last time I checked, ungainly overhangs were as dated as a 4th gen I think that's a plus, too!!

FWIW, people on the lot seem to love the look of the coupe. Not a lot of sales yet because it just came out, but a TON of positive responses.

Thank you. You're the only other person I've heard say that. That is exactly what I thought when I saw the coupe. In fact, I have a hard time telling the difference from a distance.

I almost like the sedan more than the coupe.

I love the look of the coupe and the fact that the GTP can be had with a 6-speed. I just have a thing for 6-speed coupes I guess. A 6spd G6 GTP coupe may definitely end up in my driveway next fall.

It's all about proportion. Too many people fall into the logic trap that if a little bit of something is good, then a lot of something must be even better. So if reducing overhang a few inches is good, then moving the rear wheels back a foot must be even better. Not so! This is similar to the rationale people have for putting ever larger rims on their vehicles: if the stock rims look okay; and 17s look a bit better; then 20 inchers must be the best! Not necessarily.

The problem with the G6 coupe is that with the rear wheels so far back, it leaves a huge slab of body between the trailing edge of the door and the wheel well that just looks awkward. Also, because the bottom of the backlight has to meet the lower part of the body somewhere above the rear wheels (or else a car looks really dorky), the extra long wheelbase of the G6 forces a too-long, almost horiztonal backlight and causes the unusual greenhouse profile some posts have mentioned.

Looks ok, but I agree that the sedan just generally flows better. Too Solara-like for me to ever consider buying it.

I don't think the seafoam color to the car really helps the looks to it. Maybe if I saw one in black it would look better since black makes any car look better.

Saw it again today, still looks strange to me. I just can't get used to the rear end of that car.
