smaller engines, more power

This has been the trend for a while.
I think that there's too much talk about 'needs a V8' or 'rwd' for a new Camaro.

Personally, I've been losing this 'nostalgia' factor for a while (to be honest, ever since I saw the first GTO, and now with the new Mustang, although I do like both cars).

As far as muscle cars go, it might not be a 'pony' car (?) but I'd be very happy with some GM or Ford version of the SRT-4 Neon, or WRT STi, or that other awd import car...as long as its not fugly like those three.

Who's with me?

edit: in this hypothetical scenario, no four door option is available.

also: I'd be happy with a high powered (250hp) v6 Focus to be honest

how about a small compact car with a supercharged ecotec, that is all forged, backed by a 5spd short throw manual, leather interior, with nice options like subwoofer stereo and sunroof for under 24k? Oh, make it a coupe, and a good looking one at that...
Like that one?

As a former V6 owner who almost got spanked by a RSX with half the displacement (and passengerS), I would like a supercharger, but wouldn't really say its necessary.
You'll have to have a top line, mid ranger, and volume seller (ss/z28/v6 or cobra/gt/v6).

The big three needs to look at the increasing markets and decreasing markets.

They're already gambling with the 'nostalgia' designs...why the hell not try something completely new, and something that follows economic forecasts?
For as long as I can remember, the price for gas always decreases 50% of the increase that preceded it. Eventually, we'll be paying as much as Europe.

I voted (needs V8) but I'm not sure what we are actually voting on. Is it saying that a camaro should come out as a "purpose built" wrong wheel drive V6 import fighter? That's ridiculous There's plenty to cover that without removing the V8 and RWD "nostalgia" or whatever from a camaro. I don't think so.

Re: smaller engines, more power

I'll always take a V8 over an equally powered V6, V10, or turbo whatever because of the beautiful V8 RUMBLE!!!

I voted for the V8 and RWD, but I'm sure there would be a market for the car you described.

If they want to build a new classic that's not V8 and not RWD, go for it. But it ain't a Camaro.

The only way to compete with the Mustang is with a big V8. Leave the turbo v6 to buick with their GN should they choose to bring it back.

Re: smaller engines, more power

I've put up with wrong wheel drive for 1 year 2 months and 28 days. I have nightmares of understeer. The last thing I want is an understeering AWD Camaro.

I have one wish for a new Camaro: KISS. I'm not talking "rock'n'roll all night". KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!!!! Keep AWD, hi-po V6s out of my Camaro. Big V8, RWD, manual tranny, capable handling and keep it relatively light on the scales. I hate to say it, but look at the new Mustang; following this formula this thing is going to be a ridiculous success. (**ziiiiiiiip** )

The car you described would make a great car, but a terrible Camaro.

V8 RWD American muscle cars 'till I die

by all means sell other cars for utility or to make money, but when it comes to building a car with a soul, there is only 1 kind of choice

edit: and BIG V8s too. What the hell am I supposed to do with an over complicated low power low cube 4.6, etc. Give me 300-400+ cubes and lets rock

Re: smaller engines, more power

When I said "it might not be a ponycar" I meant that it will DEFINITELY not be a Camaro.
Hopefully lighter, smaller and equally powerful as the last gen. Camaro (therefore faster ).

Re: smaller engines, more power

I think its fine if it has an option for AWD, but it will drive up costs for everyone. Base V6 is fine, but it also must have a V8. plain and simple. Otherwise dont call it a Camaro
