How so? It's not even the same class truck (1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton).

I think it competes directly with Silverado SS from a price and market segment perspective.

One thing for sure.....the SS is not direct competition for SVT Lightning.

I think it's funny that Team Mustang could have done the same thing when the Camaro was kicking it's ***. "Well, we outsell them 2-1 combined, and our customers don't care about overall performance, so the F-car is not our competition"
Does GM have anything that can compete with the Lightning?
I think that they are taking Ford's sale approach of "we outsell them so we don't care".

I don't think Ford is trying to market the Harley F-250 or F-350 as anything sporty, where as GM is marketing their truck as one (Super Sport??).

I think the current 5.4L S/c Harely F-150 and upcoming 2005 F-150 Harley would be more direct competitors. Both it and the SS are performance trucks with good towing capability, 4 big doors, 20" wheels, leather and other luxury equipment, and the pricing is near identical. Only HUGE difference is the Hp/Tq output and drive wheels (AWD vs RWD).

The 2001 figures I’ve seen only showed the Silverado/Sierra marginally outselling the F-series by a few thousand units. They were that close. It wasn't like a 2 to 1, so that’s no excuse.

I think they’ve taken the approach they did because trucks usually aren’t looked upon as sporty. There’s a difference between Ford dropping the ball (performance wise) on the Mustang and GM not offering a high Hp performance truck. The later would be a lot more acceptable.

I think they'll offer a more serious SS in the near future. It still may not have enough to compete with the rumored 500hp Lightning and 505hp SRT-10 though.

I thought the 2004 Silverado SS was going to get a power upgrade??????????????????

I think a 395HP V8 would be enough power for the Silverado SS

SRT-10 and 2005 Lightning will both be 500HP and probably cost $40-45K. I'd rather see Chevy build a $29K 395HP SS truck than a
$40K+ 500HP Silverado SS

The Lightning actually costs less than a Cobra, under $33,000!

It's doubtful the next Lightning will go up more than a grand for the chillbox they're adding to the intercooler system. But even so, if the next Lightning drops a half second or more to 60, and goes over 150mph and still sells under $35K, then the Chevy Silverado SS should be cheaper than $29,000.

Being that the extended cab SS is going for about $40,000, I strongly suspect GM will price a regular cab 2wd version at the same price as the next Lightning, around $35,000.

I won't even go into what I think about that!

With as many times as Ive posted that the 03 Harley 150 is the only competitionfor the Silverado SS I would of thought someone would of responded by now?But here we go-The 03 Harley spanks the SS in price and performance (where it counts) noone is wanting to even respond to this????Im sure you chevy guys are upset with all thats been going on with GM's latest offerings but it seems that noone wants to give any credit to Ford for bringing such a nicely equipped truck to market (for its segment).......

Umm.....unless I'm mistaken, I don't see anyone in this thread bashing the 03 HD 150 . We're actually too busy bashing the Silverado SS and its horrid lack of performance per dollar in the new "sport truck" segment.

Strange how times change. 5 years ago it was HD that was knocking on death's door. If there's one thing we should all know by now is that the auto business is cyclical. I don't see a company with the resources of Ford Motor being down forever.
