should we fear for the camaro?
should we fear for the camaro?
well, since we have seen chevy's recent styling directions with the plethora of new cars they have come out with, should we be concerned about the camaro?
do you think chevy will be able to handle and make a great looking car or will they botch it?

Re: should we fear for the camaro?
I'm 50/50 split as to weather they will be able to pull it off.
At 1st I didn't like the C6, but I bought one of the 1/18 scale Hot Wheels cars (the big ones) and after looking at it everyday I like it now. So that makes me think they could do good. But than I see the new Implal and Monte Carlo and think
. So thats where I am...50/50 chance

Re: should we fear for the camaro?
I am kinda worried because i have only seen very few 5th gen concepts that i have liked. I know they arent from GM folks but with all the various designs ive seen i havent warmed up to many. GM has a challenge on their hands. I was unsure whether or not they could pull off a C6 well but i think they did. So i think they can definaely pull off a camaro
Re: should we fear for the camaro?
No we should not fear for the Camaro. Look at the Ford 500, Ford Freestyle(bland much), and then look at the new Mustang. Sure DCX dropped the ball on the Charger, but I think GM is smarter than that. The upcoming Imp and Monte aren't what the Camaro will be.
I don't think it will be, "OMG stunning, couldn't be better!" But GM has seen what happened with the Charger and the 05 GTO sure has changes made to it from the 04 correct?

Being as the Zeta platform will provide countless body styles, the Camaro should be geared toward a small segment of buyers. Even with low sales, it shouldn't be a problem since the other cars on the line should take care of it, so to speak.
Re: should we fear for the camaro?
I think when GM wants to design a car, they can design a car. They have MANY examples of it. Most cars we see are stuff coming out of the last group of engineers with chrome bars and the like.
Camaro will deffinatly be an agressive yet handsom coupe. I have full faith in GM to make a modern sports coupe without going too far in any one direction design wise.

Re: should we fear for the camaro?
I am willing to bet the new Camaro will be EXTREMELY POLARIZING.
Either you love the styling and claim its the best thing since sliced bread, or you will absolutely hate it. Hopefully more will fall into the love it rather than hate it camp.

Re: should we fear for the camaro?
My biggest fear is that it will neither be a bullseye, nor a complete failure, but that it will be - what some may deem - close enough.
Dimensionally, not quite a Camaro....but close enough.
Suspension-wise, not quite first rate....but close enough.
Sheetmetal, not quite gorgeous.....but close enough.
I can't think of a worse scenario than a mediocre Camaro.

Re: should we fear for the camaro?
I think they will nail the car head on . I think the only thing they will get wrong is the price , and I think they'll get the price VERY very wrong . Too many people willingly shelled out over $33K for a 01/02 SS or WS6
Re: should we fear for the camaro?
Honestly, to tell the truth, I believe GM will knock this one right out of the ballpark for a number of reasons.
1. It's been under development in some capacity or another longer than any other GM car in history short of the C5 Corvette. By the time it hits the streets, it would have been 8-10 years in the pipeline.
2. GM has a world class chassis for the car. The former Camaro chassis had a rear suspension that's based on a 1971 Chevy Vega! The new chassis is going to be newer than the Sigma... and probally will have plenty of items based on it as well.
3. GM knows what Camaro represents. They have had plenty of input from Camaro fans & enthusiasts (as Bob Lutz himself has said), and I'm sure they have people involved that know what Camaro is.
4. GM's VP of design, Ed Welburn owns a 1st gen Camaro. Plus, the Saturn Sky and Aura, and most everything coming out from this fall on was done under his watch, and you can see the difference.
5. Designer Brian Nesbitt brought over from Chrysler & recently sent to Europe (designer of the PT Cruiser & ironically the new HHR), spent alot of time visiting Camaro shows and gatherings shortly after his arrival at GM. Now, why would he do that???
6. Camaro is one of the top 3 or 4 recognized car names in the country. Although it may not look like it to most of us at the moment, GM is very VERY aware of this.
7. And Finally, GM is going through a h*ll of alot to use the name again. It would have been much easier on them to simply start anew with a new name than put any effort towards using the name in a future car. If GM is putting out alot of effort to use the name again, you can probally bet the farm that they aren't going to use it on a sedan, a bloated coupe, or anything that doesn't continue the Camaro name in a traditional way.
I completely believe the next Camaro "replacement" is going to be a h*ll of a performance car. I just hope GM doesn't forget to make the base versions highly desireable to the public, price the crap out of it, or turn it into a niche car. Other than that,

Re: should we fear for the camaro?
A lot of the reason people bought the SS and WS6 in the later years is that what the dealers had on their lots. I guess they could make a better sales pitch with the SS or WS6 because they could claim they performed a whole lot better than the Z28 or Formula/TA. Capiltalizing on people's stupidity

Back to the topic question, i AM afraid. You almost always have to be with every major redesign. Right now, i have a lot of questions and NO answers. And we're all being kept in the dark. As far as we know, the future is uncertain because things aren't even yet official. I like the new c6 and the Cobalt coupe SS, but no other Chevy car has impressed me to date. GM has proved that they can make cars that blow your socks off, but they also prove that they can disspoint. I just hope the F5 doesn't dissapoint because a lot of us have high exptations after seeing the new Cadillac's and Saturns and waiting through such a lot hiatus.
