What is the point of that car? Ford and it's retro ideas. Lame. So now they're going to do what? Make it look like this?

I'd rather spend the money and buy a real or even replica Shelby Cobra with a 427 side oiler.

Ford does NOT have a better idea.

It's pretty good Ford is making these limited production cars to draw in showroom traffic. But I think these type of cars would be better served sitting in Lincoln-Mercury showrooms, not Fords.

Ford has Mustangs, Lightnings, Cobras, and even the Thunderbird to draw in traffic (and sales). I know these cars to a large degree don't affect company resources, and for the most part are break-even cars, but IMHO it's L-M, not the Ford division that needs expensive "halo cars".... and fast!

I guess Ford is the volume leader. Accordig to the first three month sales numbers released, the Ford brand made up 83% of Ford Motor Co sales. Seeing as how they are carrying the burden of sales, and judging by how the Ford name has been somewhat tarnished over the last few years, i think it is wise to badge these cars as Fords since they'll be playing the roll of an image builder. 1) they draw attention 2) they add on to Ford's rich motorsports history (something Lincoln and Mercury doesn't have much of).

That and has the Shelby Cobra badge or GT40 graced anything other than a Ford? Maybe a whole new supercar would be right with being badged lincoln/mercury but not a remake of what previously was a Ford (or shelby Ford).

I know SVT is doing a couple of projects for them, the Messenger..er, Cougar is in route, and the Mark IX is convulsing it's way through the system if that's what you're getting at. But putting a very unique and very rare car in the vein of a GT or Cobra, or even a Chrysler Chronos-like vehicle (something that's collector bait) in the LM showroom I think will do wonders for the brand.

That is unless there is Lincoln Supercar buried somewhere?

Maybe Mercury could get a Powler like retro 32 Merc look alike car. I think it could be put on DC2 with a few front end changes.

Probably won't happen but it would be cool.

LOL, no Lincoln Supercar that I know of...but what I was trying to say was a halo car for those two companies doesn't necessarily have to be a supercar. The Cougar, IMO, will be the Mercury halo car. The Cougar is going to be VERY nice. Though SVT might have a hand in the Cougar, I really think whatever they do will be very different from what the Cougar is. I also would like to believe it'll be unique to Mercury. What I mean by that is, I don't think you'll see both a SVT Comet (just an example) and a SVT Falcon (as it will most likely be called now, sounds good too), both being on the same chassis with the same s/c V6 and AWD.

Lincoln is the hard one to figure out though. How do you build a halo car for them? It would have to be fast and luxurious like an AMG, but more distinct from the rest of the lineup like the CTS-V is (to me) from the rest of the Cadillac lineup. The Mark IX could do that, but it depends on what Lincoln does to it during its "convulsing" period, lol. It seems more likely that whatever SVT does for Lincoln down the road, that it will be halo car eventually.

I really believe we'll see these special products out of Mercury before Lincoln, but that's just a guess from what I've seen.

So basically a rebadged Mustang? I like it. Looks better than a Mustang.

I guess 900,000 F-series trucks go a long way towards that 83%...

Wow, now see how much better that Mustang looks if they went with a non-retro designed nose? rest of the car is still 60-esque, but that could have been fixed.
Ford had a great chassis, a good motor, and an all new set up, and they went down the path of the retro that is still iffy. I think Ford would have gotten a better response if it looked like this. Hell, I like it better then the one coming out. Still wouldnt buy it, but it looks better then the retro one, at least in the nose area.
