Shame on GM
More ponticrap headed to a dealer near you. It seems that the Vibe is getting a s/c powerplant. A toyota based 1.8L. I like the idea of US car companys duking it out with the imports on 4cyl terms. But please use a GM sourced ecotec. Its an AWD car/ truck thing that comes in under 3000 lbs. A 220hp s/c ectotec to go head on with the SRT-4 and wrx is what they need.

Well, the Vibe is built side-by-side with it's cousin, the Toytoa Matrix... so I don't think it's too unnatural for this to happen...
It sounds like an upgrade to me...
The biggest shortfall of the Vibe is that the AWD version is seriously slow... 11.5 0-60 times w/ 123hp. Even the base Vibe has 130hp, and is a bit faster. The Vibe GT has 180hp.

Nothing wrong with the Vibe (if you are into those types of vehicles).
It's pretty convienent the Vibe is getting a supercharger after the PT Cruiser gets a turbo. After all, those 2 are competitors in the same market (right down to size).

The Vibe is getting a supercharger because Toyota is production constrained on the 180 horse engine that's used in the Celica GT-S, Vibe GT, and Matrix XRS. I don't think the platform is engineered for the Ecotec. It's Toyota to the bone. Pontiac just had input on styling.

Evil Turbo SS- I don't see how putting a s/c on this car is a bad thing, I agree that the 220HP s/c ecotech would be better.

Yeah, I heard about this a few months ago and thought it was very strange, not because it is a Toyota motor but because the SC 1.8 is the base 1.8 and only equals the horsepower of the better NA 1.8. Why not just leave in the 180 hp NA 1.8? I guess for that crowd, it is better to say that you have a SC.
