280hp+ in that thing? That would be some serious fun.

This.

For the price I'll take the extra 2 doors, extra cargo space, extra versatility, and AWD. Not to mention a faster car all around minus the skidpad grip and slalom speed. Unless you're looking for a track toy or hit up mountain roads on a daily basis, I don't see the appeal of this car at $25,000+.

A lot of enthusiasts want smaller/lighter-weight rwd cars over bigger/heavier awd cars. Even if the smaller/lighter-weight rwd car is slower.

I might get an FR-S or BRZ, not as a track toy but as a daily driver. Not really interested in the WRX. Maybe for the wife (who insists on 4-doors and hatch utility).

So apparently the souped up version is going to have at least 250hp, remain normally aspirated, and weigh less - wow.

Subaru says it is working on “faster” BRZ

And probably cost north of $30,000. Honda did this all the way back in 1999 with the S2000

Hmmm... lighter with a bit more power, that would put it in V6 Mustang acceleration territory maybe? I see they have also disregarded a supercharged version over fuel economy... pfft...

Assuming they shave off 100lbs, that gives it a weight/power ratio of (10.4) - between the Mustang V6 (11.3) and GT (8.7).

Anyone else a little underwhelmed by the 22 city/30 Highway MPG rating for a 2700 lbs car? I would expect a little better.

You probably *should* expect better. My S2000 is rated at 24 mpg hwy, but I get 28mpg over my commute (10% city, 10% stop/go, 80% 75mph hwy).

Seems like this is shaping up to be a newer RX-8.

A "newer RX-8" would be OK, but this is 300 lb. lighter-weight, 38% better mileage vs. RX-8, with the same power/weight. Better...

I'd love to see some company master the rotary engine, they are really neat. That's one of my favorite things about the RX-series, other than it's light weight.
