This thing is really starting to remind me of Miata's of the 1990's. They won't be fun drag racers, but I'm fairly certain this car will be blast to toss around.

Speaking of which that'll be awesome to see the ZL-1 and 2013 GT500 going at it.

This car reminds me more of a 7/8ths scale Mazda RX-8, minus the rear suicide doors.
I'm also rather surprised that the Scion and Subaru will share the same sheetmetal and interiors. Kinda like the Geo Prism and Toyota Corolla from back in the day. Or Vibe / Matrix, but at least they had unique sheetmetal.

From their GT86 press release:
Sounds more like they are targeting the driving enthusiast. It will be competing with the Miata which starts at $23k. I've seen reports of it starting at around $20k.
We'll see what marketing direction they take in the US.
The Toyota GT 86 has been conceived as an entirely driver-focused machine, designed to deliver the core qualities of the classic sports car experience. That means precise, instant response to the smallest throttle and steering inputs and the kind of performance that appeals to those for whom driving is a passion, not a necessity.
We'll see what marketing direction they take in the US.

Even with nearly 1000 extra pounds the F5 still has a power advantage.

I like these, and I'm very curious to see how they track test. I bet they'll do well in the twisties.
But I can't help but think that if GM were releasing these cars right now, as say a Chevy and a Buick they would get absolutely pilloried for daring to bring the exact same car to market under two different badges.
These are as much, or maybe even more, alike than the Celebrity and a Century were in the darkest days of GMs badge engineering.

It is more like when Ford and Chevy worked together to produce the same 6 speed transmissions or Pontiac and Toyota both did the same cross over, although reskinned. Or Toyota Corola and the Geo counter part.
