Saw the SSR in person

There was an autoshow in Portland.. Not much exciting stuff.. But Chevy did have a purplish SSR on display, to walk around.

First of all, it looks alot better in person.. In all the pictures I've seen before, I thoguh the fenders were round and bubbly.. Well, they sharpened them out, at least I thoguht so, with an edge to them. They had a hardtop cover on the bed. I actually kinda like how it looks!

The engine bay looks pretty! They had a nice valve covers on matching the exterior paint.. They engine bay was uncluttered.. like those custom jobs done on hotrods... If they can pass that look in production, I'd be very impressed.

The interior, I couldn't get a real upclose look, but it looks really nice!

All in all, for what it is, in my book, its looks interesting. Seemed like just about everyone that saw it took the time to at least walk around it once.

I don't have much interest in SSR for a number of reasons...

We'll see how it does. I have a lot of doubts about it, though...

I agree it looks alot better in person, it seems too squished in photos, but in person it seems much longer and the proportions are nicer.

Still wouldnt think about buying it though.

ROFL

Well, that is a major one, but there are (believe it or not) others... such as:

~Underpowered for what it is supposed to be... an enthusiast vehicle.

~Not into the truck/car El Camino type-thing...

~I think it is somewhat overpriced...

There are a few other reasons too, but those are the biggies.

That's the one I most agree with. I actually don't mind the Retro styling as much on that particular vehicle.

Yeah, the concept came out at the Detroit Auto Show in '99 or '00 I can't remember which but its aleast 3 years ago. I think all the buzz around the SSR has all died out. So when it finally makes production its not going to be a big deal.

Much like the current T-bird. It was on display, what, 3 years before production?

Ken, sound's like you guys may have the SSR from the LA show.

nobody in the right mind wants an SSR. I'd say they sell less then 2,000 the first year.

Well I drove the SSR in person. I work up at the General Motors Proving Grounds where all the testing goes on, and the SSR drives like a dream, it is a great car.

Thumbs up

I have also seen it in person at Carlisle P.A. I looks great with all the brushed metal trim. I was not happy about the production version losing one of my favorite bits, which were the side mirrors. However I still think it looks very cool

The SSR is 1 of the most ridiculous looking vehicles ever. I wonder how few of them you'll see on the streets??
