Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...

Sorry, but my S-10 had more squeeks and rattles than I could count. From the dash board, the passengers seat and the folding seats in back.

From Edmunds.com "Inside Line"

Avalanche 5.3 V-8 4wd $36,568 - 0-60 8.90sec, 16.7@83.8mph mpg 13/17
S10 Crew 4WD 4.3 V-6 $25,348 - 0-60 10.3sec, 17.8@78.1mph mpg 15/18
Colorado Crew 4wd I5 $31,800 - 0-60 9.90sec, 17.26@80.82mph mpg 16/23
Ridgeline RTS 3.5 V-6 $30,590 - 0-60 9.03sec, 17.03@82.97mph mpg 16/21

The only compact sized chassis from GM that I've ever driven that felt solid was the Trailblazer's chassis. I often wish they would have used that for the Colorados and such... seems like a much stiffer and smoother chassis, but I understand there are cost constraints.

The Ridgeline should feel more unitized than any compact truck on the market when on road. Maybe not off road, though.

Those are MSRP, not actual price. Avalanche had a $5,000 rebate on them. I paid $23,600 for my Colorado Crew Z71 4x4.

I bet you can get an Avalanche for about the same price as a ridgeline. The 2007 Avalanche with a DoD V8 will get about the same milage as a V6 ridgeline too.

Interesting how this argument never seem to come up when people start saying "well caddy outsells Lexus in the 'real' luxury car segment", which is somehow defined at around 42k bucks? Well let's compare price sold here, not sticker.

BTW, does your Colorado have leather, heated seats, XM, I5, crew cab, etc? If so, that's a great price. If not, it's not really comparable to the Ridgeline anyway.

Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...

Supposdily, I've heard real world MPG for the RL is closer to 15 mpg..

Av
Wheelbase, in. 130.0
Overall Length, in. 221.7
Overall Width, in. 79.8
Overall Height, in. 73.3

RL
Wheelbase (in.) 122.0
Length (in.) 206.8
Height (in.) 70.3 70.3 / 71.2 with moonroof
Width (in.) 77.8

So as you can imaigne, the RL's look a smaller in real life, if you are used to the Av's.

Hiproom inside an Av is much nicer.. This is really noticable when you put 3 adult males in the back.

Interstingly, the RL is rated to have a higher payload capacity than the Av! By like 2-3 hundred pounds. But the Av is rated to be able to tow alot more, by about 3 thousand pounds.

As an Av owner, the only one neat thing I like about the RL is how the tailgate opens two ways.. But we absolutley love the Av's midgate and saddlebags.

Because its a truck.. Not a Car wishing to be a truck. Maybe the ridgeline is something intended for you

Our Avalanche is surprisingly quiet... There's a a squeek in the rear passanger side that comes up ocasionally (think its a rubber seal squeeking against hte glass or covers) . If you push in on the rear door panels with your knee, it squeeks a little bit.. Over some bumps, it occasionally makes a quiet "booop". But thats it! They are only noticable because the truck itself is so quiet. Lots of people comment that it rides nicer and quieter than their cars.

In this day and age, there is no excuse for the interior of a truck to be excessively loud with rattles... Especially considering how much money they make per sale of them..

We are talking about a $13,000 S-10 (new) compared to a $35,000 Avalanche (New MSRP...) you get what you pay for guy. I releize everytime i jump in my Z that its rattle's bangs booms and clanks come with its relativly low MSRP when it was new (and yes i keep up on my car, she's as tight as a cruise ship). But i would never compare it to my vette, for a car that costed DOUBLE what the camaro did, i expect it to be quite and smooth. Sure for 3x the cash of the S-10 i certainly would hope your truck was as quiet as the country side on a cool winter's night.

I in no way would expect a neon to be as quiet or as evolved as a 300 Series, or a Cobalt to ride like a caddy. You get what you pay for, and what your paying for in a S-10 is a CHEAP pickemup truck.

On a side not, my step-father has a 2004 Seirra Z71, and it is literally like riding in a caddy, it has flip-down TV the whole nine-yard, but if it was anything else for for $43,000.. I would tell him to shoot the salesman.

Not a huge Ridgeline fan. however the Tacoma (245 hp V6 or something, it hauls trust me and is VERY nice ) and Tundra, are both very nice!
The Titan, meh, I don't think it can go up against the Tundra.

My first tank of fuel I got 18.3mpg. The best so far before oil change/break in has been 18.7mpg. The worst 17.9mpg. This is all from my daily commute, out of my neighborhood, highway which is mostly stop and go rush hour traffic/some actual highway speeds, but mostly not and then city- stop light to stop light. Daily round trip around 30 miles.
I haven't taken it out on a road trip to test the highway mileage yet.

And yet it still outperforms the S-10, the Colorado and is comparable to the Avalanche.

I would certainly hope a FWD Civic truck with a price tag of $30,000 could compete with two econo-trucks

It is in no way directly comparable to the avalanche, the avalanche is little more then a reskinned Silverado, which in any respect aside from the quaintness of unibody constructions owns a Ridgeline, in those things... Ya know... that trucks do.

EXCEPT, surprisingly, for offically rated payload capacity.. The Ridgeline is rated higher than the Av. Its roughly 1300 lbs vs 1500 lbs.

As you will see with any GM truck, they are accessivly OVER engineered.

Start Stacking some concrete in there beds, and see how accurate your stats are. I bet you'll get frame damage in the Ridgeline before the avalanche even breaks a sweat, hell id bet you the farm.

2004 Silverado 1500 says payload Capacity (bed) is 1645, i can personally vouche for getting in access of 2200 in the bed, sure it lowered it a bit but it had no issues what so ever.
