I was doing some driving today and ran across a brand new GXP over in lawrence. Black car, I figured it was just one of the million black grand prixs running around. Got closer at a light and saw the "V8" badge on it and noticed the quad exhaust was actually making some noise. Rolled along side it and yep, it was indeed a GXP. I really thought the little chrome flag or whatever that thing is on the side looked cool. I don't know if that was a dealer emblem or what but it looked pretty neat. I turned at the light and continued on my way. Overall I like the GXP much more in person than I did in pictures, and was pretty happy with its look and sound.

On the way back to lenexa I was coming down quivira next to a silver eclipse, probably a few years old. I gave it a look over, it was one of the few cleaner looking ones around here. Right after that a almost burnt orange brand new eclipse pulled out next to me.

Let me just say this right now, I have no problem admitting when I am wrong about something, and will gladly do so. I am very vicious about the styling of cars though, but always reserve my final judgement until I see one in person....

That eclipse has one of the ugliest front ends I have ever seen on a car, I mean good god. It looked about as horrible as I thought it could look in a picture, but in real life it is worse. It only made it worse that I had just seen its predecessor and could easily see how they took a decent design and turned it into a butt ugly monstrosity. From the back the lettering on it looks kind of cool, I will give it that. The "ECLIPSE" on the back has a look like it is being torn off the car from the speed, which while stupid is kind of interesting.

Thoughts?

 

I definitely am a big fan of the GXP, but I would probably wait to buy one used. As for the eclipse, I dont know, it is nice just to see a change as the previous style was getting boring considering there are so many of them on the roads.

 

For some reason I'm really diggin' the Eclipses in that burnt orange color.

 

I think the only front end that'll give the Eclipse a run for its money in the fugly dept is the Tribeca.

 

The GXP has DOD, it cant sound good at idle running on 4 cylinders

 

yea the eclipse has been out awhile...think its looks pretty sharp from certain angles

 

Typically the moment you step on the gas to rev it up, it'll be on all 8 cylinders. I wonder how those things sound w/ aftermarket exhaust heading down the highway when running on 4-cyl?

 

Same thing with the Charger, Magnum, 300C etc...

 

I don't think the Eclipse looks that bad...it doesn't look good, but it's not bad The side profile is kind of sexy but it's still generic FWD so it doesn't matter. If it was RWD/AWD it would look a lot better

 

the eclipse looks like two fronts fused together. Can't tell which way the damn thing is going.

 

I can say this...the purr of a GXP will be music to any gearhead's ears. It's the best sounding LSx I've seen yet, aside from the '05 GTOs.

I wish I had bought the '05 I planned on buying

 

Not only is it ugly, it also ways 3500 lbs.

 

So far I don't care for the new Eclipse, but I still think it looks better than the previous gen.

 

Ehhhh.....I'm skeptical, need to go down to Pontiac and ask them to start it up.

 

I shally clarify when we got to the light it's on a hill, so the driver of the GXP had to give it some gas when the guy in front of him turned off. That is when I heard the exhaust, and it really did sound good. Now that I think about it, I couldn't hear it at all at idle and my hooker is pretty quiet.

Dustin, I love that color on them but the front of that eclipse made me want to vomit. Then I ate two KFC snackers however and felt better.
