Saw an Impala SS today...that well, looked cool.

Has anyone noticed that Impala SS's have a high ride height? The rear looks like it's got a set of '70's air shocks, totally pumped up. It looks like it's riding about 6" too high.

Today I saw one loaded down with passengers and packages. It's cargo load eliminated that jacked-up look, and by golly, it actually looked cool.

Too bad you can't buy them looking like that.

Re: Saw an Impala SS today...that well, looked cool.

A co-worker of mine bought a black one about 2 weeks ago. I got to take it for a spin..what a blast. Every review you read is right: there is no torque steer. Found that you can make use of the traction control pretty quick if you aren't careful on the gas. Primarily because of the power, the car doesn't feel large when you drive it. Instead, you'll notice the cars size throwing it around a corner. The car looks a little plain on the outside. The interior is very nice -- especially for what it is (a Chevrolet; GM's value division). My only complain was the rear seat leg room looked a bit tight -- which shouldn't be the case for a mid-large sedan. I'd have no complaints with the car for my daily driver.

Well, one thing I will say is that EVERY review complains about torque steer. Its less so in the GXP because of the tires, but I can assure you with that car its still evident, based on my own drives. I will say this though...its not annoying, and to get the benefits of that package, I'd take it any day

Too bad they're FWD. Is gm ever going to go back to Rwd?

Uh...... you're new here, aren't you?

Seriously, though, the new Camaro is going to be based on a RWD sedan. Otherwise, we wouldn't have a new Camaro.

GP possibly replaced with a RWD G8? Maybe. Dunno. Clueless...

Impala will most likely ALWAYS be FWD with hopefully AWD in the future.

As the "W" is phased out, that's something I would bet on.

Ehh...I've realized, that as much as I have warmed up to the car, I will never get over the "Japanese" look-a-like front it has. It doesn't even look more Lumina-like to me anymore. I mistake the fronts for Honda Accords at night all the time.
Atleast the old one had style. I'll say it again, the 97-05 Impys are my favorite. The SS in that gen takes the cake for me too, even with "only" a blown V6.

I have noticed the high ride height too, but it doesn't look like it is on stilts like others.

On a side note, my father saw one on the road the other day and he really liked it. He did not like the previous Impala but now he is asking me for all sorts of info on the car. I just need to steer him towards the SS.

I was going to start a new thread on this, but I'll just attach it here.

According to the new Motor Trend, the Impala SS is as quick to 60 as the Charger Hemi.

That's either impressive for the Impala, or a demonstration of how much Chrysler's traction management computer hamstrings the engine.

Either way, that's a positive for Impala.

I don't like the Impala SS all that much, especially compared to the GP GXP. Kind of like how I got a Firebird instead of a Camaro except there are real performance benefits with the GXP.
