Saw a Cobalt SS sedan today,
What a cool little car. The 17" wheel/Pirelli P6 tire combo really gives it an agressive stance. MUCH better than the forgettable base Cobalt sedan....but not over the top like the supercharged coupe.
It stickered for over 20 grand though. :blah: More than I was expecting.
For that price you could buy:
A stripped V6 Mustang.
A pretty loaded Mazda3.
A nicely equipped Mini Cooper.

Re: Saw a Cobalt SS sedan today,
I'll admit it had a sunroof and automatic trans. Those two options added maybe over 1,600 bucks.
But I agree, this car would be more desirable at around 17K.

I agree, that price is too steep even with those options. The base MSRP is $18790 (edmunds.com).

Re: Saw a Cobalt SS sedan today,
On the other hand, the Mazda 3 in the recent thread about the Edmunds.com comparison was about 20 grand with options, too. That 160 hp car was slower than the base 145 hp Cobalt (both automatics).
The SS comes with just about everything standard, too. So a loaded up Cobalt SS (N/A) is similar to a loaded up Mazda 3 in price. Seems reasonable to me, especially given the performance advantage of the SS.
What am I missing?

I don't believe the automatic Cobalt comes with an auto-stick "feature" either.

Re: Saw a Cobalt SS sedan today,
My only gripe about the 2.4 SS is the price tag base price of close to 19 grand.
If it was 17 or 18 grand and at least 2 to 3 grand less than a base SS S/C then it would be a good deal but I dont think one should cost 21 grand and a SS Supercharged be like 22 grand. What'd be the point of gettin a SS when u can get a Blowed motor, bigger wheels, Cool 2 tone seatin, more preformance goodies, and extreme appearance. While you get sport with the 2.4 just its overpriced. I hope Chevy brings down the price next year.
Just I like the idea of SS cobalt just dont like the price........

Re: Saw a Cobalt SS sedan today,
well then thats the problem.. GM has to continue imporving these cars, so for $20k, people will want get it over a stripped v6 stang, mazda3, mini cooper..
The argument of "well its cheaper" does hold up very well when the other side goes, "Well, for a grand or 3 more, you get a much better car"

The 2.4L SS has enough dedicated perfornace upgrades to warrant the name.
Although I don't think there should be two Tailblazer SS/Impala ect. On the Coblat I think they can get awya with it.
And the 2.4L SS owns the Mazda 3!

As for the MSRP---rmeber its suggested and you can get in for under list and likely a much beter lease/finance rate then the 3.
