I wish they could just sell the Solstice and G8 at Chevy dealers for a year or two until they can do something with the plants.

The G8 should get the Chevy Lumina's (the Middle East's Commodore) nose and it should be renamed Impala.

No need to engineer anything new either, just a bumper cover change and some badges. I vote for Chevelle or Impala.

If it is Impala give it a 4 cyl. (this would cost money to add) V6 and V8 for the SS. Use the plain hood on the 4 and 6 and the G8 hood on the SS.

too bad they already said this isn't happening. Maybe with the next Commodore

A 4 cyl? for a 4000 lb car? Just put the DI 3.6 as the base and be done with it.

This was also announced on the news tonight, so all of America knows now, so in my humble opinion, GM might as well close Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, and Saab dealers today. In all honesty, brand loyalty aside, who the hell is going to buy from them now?

I think there will be "collector" sales spikes. You'll probably see solstice/sky, G8, and maybe even Hummer sales increase a little from people who really really want one and don't care they're going away, but "smart" people won't buy a car from a brand that's being eliminated.

I would really like a 6-speed G8 GT, still.

Maybe even an auto, but oh well. I need a better job.............

I don't know about that. Anyone who owns a car that's no longer in production is pretty much in the same boat regarding parts, so whether or not the brand is gone or not matters not. In fact, parts should be readily available from Holden, not Pontiac (not sure how long the Pontiac specific parts will be available, but luckily there aren't that many). And I'm sure a Chevy dealer will be able to work on it, given it's similarity to the Camaro. Of course if you're not alluding to parts, and instead resale value, then yes, it may not be a great idea.

Heck, we're even having a hard time finding some parts for our Blazer already.

This was interesting recent Newsweek article about Saturn. I meant to post it sooner, but it seems appropriate for this thread.

Be careful. The Chevy nose from the ME may not pass NA crash regulations.

Isn't it just a bumper cover, the grill is about the only thing different.

We're lucky to see 5,000 of them made, probably more like 3,000 of them! They just started production on them within the last month and yes, there ARE saleable units on lots.
Autoblog is quoting Pontiac's media relations manager as stating less than 5,000 G8 GXPs and less than 900 Solstice coupes. Man, that makes me really want a Solstice coupe. Of course parts may be pretty precious in a few years...

Damn, talk about instant classic. I really like the Solstice coupe, with only 900 made, and not all of them GXPs I assume, this car will hold its value.
