Saturn and Oldsmobile's heritage.

Since Saturn seems poised to replace the segment previously occupied by Oldsmobile, how about infusing some good ole' Oldsmobile heritage into the "new" Saturn?

Someone on GM's new site even goes so far as to suggest that Saturn use some Olds names - like Saturn Rocket or Saturn Starfire.

I like that idea. I like it alot.

Bigger and better like this?........*BEEP BEEP*....."HI!.HI!......How do you like my new Sky!"

Olds has lots of heritage. Before brand management killed Olds, it had an image of leading edge sophistication.

Saturn has an image of plastic panelled, no-haggle priced little cars. Talk about creating an image make-over....it could use an infusion of Olds DNA.

im sorry, i cannot picture a 'saturn rocket' much less a 'Rocket 1.9L'

IMO if they wanted a brand with that image, they shouldve just used the brand that didnt have one before it died. imo a brand with an economy car image is not one easily changed.

Chevy
Pontiac
Oldsmobile
Caddy
GMC
Hummer

With Olds gone, by all means let Buick be that role. But Saturn, I dont even consider that a GM, never will. I value heritage, image and toughness over import chasing plastic cars, regardless of how much they borrow from opel, pontiac or chevy in order to change their image.

Edit: And that is not to say I dont like the pictures I've seen up about the sky, because I think it looks great. Which is all the more reason I wish it had a better brand (and car name) on it.

All I know is that "Sky" seems like such a pansy name to me. Kind of how Datsun wanted to call the US market, 240Z, Fairlady, and actually did in Japan.

Saturn Starfire sounds better. Both Olds and Saturn have that rocket/space thing going.

Yep, Saturn Starfire....with a ROCKET 2.4 under the hood.

I think its a good idea. I also dislike the name Sky. Love the car, but Sky?

The main people buying the Sky will have no clue an Olds car with those names existed imo, I just think they are way better than Sky.
