Saturn expansion, roadster rumors persist

AutoWeek

The good bits:

Saturn will have a six-vehicle lineup within three years, says Jill Lajdziak, Saturn's vice president for sales, service and marketing.

"We'll be doubling our entries through the Saturn portfolio," said Lajdziak at a press event here last week.

Saturn has announced plans to add a minivan next year. Lajdziak declined to say what other vehicles will be added, but previously she had said Saturn needs a roadster or a small sporty coupe.

...

That leaves two slots in the lineup. Asked whether Saturn would build the Sky concept roadster unveiled in 2001, Lajdziak said, "Not that vehicle, but stay tuned." Saturn has been rumored to be seeking a roadster on a rear-drive architecture being developed, in part, for the Pontiac Solstice.

I wouldnt doubt if Saturn gets the Opel version of the Solstice in 2007/08 but like many new Saturns coming out in the next few years it "wont" have non-denting polymer body panels and it will look nothing like the Saturn "Sky" concept from a few years back.

possible future lineup:

2005- "Relay" mini-van
2006- "V" Saturn version of the Malibu Maxx
2007- New "Vue" longer with 3rd row
2008- "Sky"- Saturn version of Solstice
2009- Ion Replacement
