I saw that the 9-2x has turned out to be a flop. It sold something like 430 units last month. This of course begs the question: how good a deal can one get on them. Considering that the MSRP for the 9-2x Aero is $27,675 and the Subaru WRX wagon lists at 24 and change, it would need to have more than 3k off to be considered anything close to good deal. For low 20's this would be a sick car. The Saab is certainly more handsome than the Subaru, and is a fun little car. AWD makes it a great year round performer. Has anyone heard what these things are going for?

 

There is currently a $4500 rebate on the 9-2x and an extra $1000 gm hot button.

Still, the car is a little small, but has nice features. might pick one up tomorrow, but it defnitely is NOT a saab.

 

I'm testing one for my gig at Autoblog.com. I have it for a week. IT's not a bad car and really fun in the corners. Just trying to get used to the turbo-lag and no low-end torque like my Z28.

I have been told that a good aftermarket torque converter is available for those cars to help overcome the low end torque issues. My fiance is looking for a new car, but she hasn't learned to drive a stick yet, so we were looking at an automatic WRX or 9-2X.

 

Yikes. I'd avoid any turbocharged Subaru if I was looking for an automatic transmission. I also wouldn't dream of voiding a new car warranty with "a good aftermarket torque converter."

If your fiance needs to get a car with a slushbox, keep in mind that Nissan is making the best slushboxes at the moment. Have your fiance look at a $31K Infiniti G35 - sorry, the $28K "cloth" model is gone for good. The Infiniti's VDC (stability control) is far more useful than a WRX's AWD system. Of course, you can get a G35 with AWD but it really isn't neccessary.

 

I would also say that an automatic and a turbo Subie are a bad mix. I've heard that with its dearth of low-end torque, an auto WRX is actually challenging in stop and go traffic.
