View Poll Results: Would you likely purchase an afforable RWD-V8 Chevy coupe without the Camaro name?
Nope. I am loyal to the Camaro and will wait for its return.

Return of V8-RWD, Camaro name? (Poll)
Return of V8-RWD, Camaro name? (Poll)
With talk of something big being unveiled in January at the 2003 NAIAS, Bob Lutz has the imaginations of enthusiasts on this board running wild. It is reasonable to speculate that with GM's renewed emphasis on cars (especially rwd) and performance, this could be something in the V8-RWD configuration. Many doubt whether GM would introduce a new Camaro concept at this point for a myriad of reasons; others are forever optimistic that a new Camaro is just around the corner.
I liked this poll untill i saw the results. Less than half of the votes are in favor of the Camaro. Just make anything and put it out, Camaro name or not. Why are we even here?

As much as I love Camaros, I dont see it happening. However, the more successful any RWD V8 is, the more improved our chances are for a new one. So gimmie something that has *****, rwd, and regardless of the name its a step in the right direction.

Gotta be Camaro.
I could make a case for all four choices. Ultimately, I would accept and strongly consider purchasing any Chevy (or Pontiac) that fit those parameters of being affordable, V8, and rwd (assuming it has proper quality and other considerations).
I would love to see the Camaro name return and this would be the best-case scenario, but who's to say there isn't going to be another 10 years before it happens? A brand new Bel Air, Chevelle, or beefed-up Monte Carlo would also be choices worth considering. Just the same, how cool would it be to say you owned one of the first "______," a new muscle car for the second big generation of performance. How many brand-new, from-the-ground-up performance cars are we seeing these days?? I can't think of one in the last 10 years from GM. I don't see myself telling my grand children about the great Cadillac CTS.
The fourth choice makes the most sense, and I believe is the most realistic. I think even you Camaro purists would find it hard to turn down a brand new, RWD-V8, Chevy coupe with modern technology and quality, that could lay a Mustang on its *** and not force you to restructure your finances. This is almost what we're getting in the GTO, but it's still a bit out of reach in price. This isn't to say nearly half of us will take whatever comes down the pipe; or that 35 years of history means nothing. No. But a brand new car running low 13s and costing $25-30k would have to look like the Aztek to not get most of our attention, regardless of label, whether we admit it or not. So in that sense, I'm not surprised by the voting so far. I also think this is the scenario GM will play while some of the general public are still sour on the names Camaro and Firebird.
In a semi-related/unrelated note, I'd like to announce my own Cincinnati Bengals have defeated the Texans 38-3. Hang in there Camaro loyalists--miracles can happen!!

Didn't Chevy's general manager actually say they were looking for a suitable chassis for Camaro?
Though I am not partial to the name on a power RWD coupe, it does sound like Camaro will be back.......with or without Monte Carlo (though most likely with.
