Report: Crown Vic lives beyond 2009.
Re: Report: Crown Vic lives beyond 2009.
Ford is trying to claim the "Dinosaur Award" away from the now-defunct Chevy Astro ...
...just not sure if it is with the Crown Vic... the Ranger... or both. :blah:

Re: Report: Crown Vic lives beyond 2009.
Yea, I heard something about it continuing too, primarily as a police and fleet vehicle.
If that's the case, I don't expect too much from the redesign.

Re: Report: Crown Vic lives beyond 2009.
Any chance it will get the newer 3v 4.6L by 2010?
back in 1993 when I used to think about what cars would look like ~20 years into the future, I didn't expect them to look the same as they did in 1993

Re: Report: Crown Vic lives beyond 2009.
Here's some interesting excerpts from the Ford Police Advisory Board meeting:
And....
Hurricane?
2009 Ford CVPI
Nearly all the rest of the PAB meeting was spent discussing the 2009 model, most of which remains business confidential. Virtually no details are available for the 2009 Ford CVPI. No automaker openly discusses future products. However, the basics important to law enforcement are known. The car will remain a full-size, body-on-frame, V-8-powered, rear wheel drive, four-door sedan. It will be upgraded with federally mandated safety features and performance enhancements. There will be no change in the interior space, trunk volume or wheelbase. These updates will keep the Crown Victoria in the Ford lineup for years.
Changes to the 2007 and 2008 models will be incremental and very slight. At the most optimistic, some parts or features funded by the new 2009 may be pulled forward to the 2008 model. However, these will be very minor, such as bright wheel covers to replace the matte finish. Expect the 2007 and 2008 models to be virtually carryovers of the 2006 model.

And....
The 2009 CVPI is a different story! Ford Fleet proposed one change after another. The PAB members discussed these in frank and open meetings. Is this what law enforcement wants? If not this, how about that? If not that, then what?
At times, the meeting sounded like the Jack Roush garage at a Winston Cup NASCAR race. Speed costs money...how fast do you want to go? Do your urban cops want to get to 60 mph one second faster? Two seconds faster? Three seconds faster? Do your highway cops want to go 5 mph faster? Or 10 mph faster? Or 20 mph faster?

Re: Report: Crown Vic lives beyond 2009.
Ford would be dumber than dumb to just fold-up and walk away from 80% of the patrol car business.
I have heard rumors that they wanted to keep the P71 cars around for fleet sales and patrol duty as Guy mentioned. I think they'd be fools not to.
Think about this... we are talking about cop cars here, but just think about all the TAXI CABS in the US, Canada, and Mexico that are P71 cars too!
Then there are the thousands of LP-conversion kits to consider too. Most cabs in N.C. are propane-powered. There are advantages to having alternate fueled vehicles in your fleet when gas jumps another $1/gallon.
As for the car itself, I have heard nothing about any detail. The thread linked to above offered lots of insight if it is all true. I'd like to think Ford could capitalize on a plan when the CUSTOMER themselves are offering to make the plan for you. Sure the car needs improvements, so don't make the classic mistake and let it rot due to lack of attention.
Interestingly enough, I think that LOTS of the things mentioned as interests for the 2009 police units would make GREAT performance adders for the next Marauder!!!
Seriously, if they are going to keep the platform and make the sheetmetal and interiors, they should go ahead and make the civilian-versions too... at least the basic P74 Crown Vic and either the Grand Marquis OR the Town Car. I'd have no problem 86'ing the GMarq and pushing the buyer to a loaded Crown Vic, a FiveHundred, or a Milan instead.
Interesting read. I'll be asking some questions in the upcoming weeks.

Ahhhhhh just kill it!! KILL IT!!
I see a lot more Impalas and Chargers then CV's all of a sudden. Outside of the NJ State police, I everyone else seems to be riding in either old/new Impala's, or Chargers.
Just make a Grandpa Edition with built in doughnut in the seat, large buttons with big numbers on it, and a pill case that pops out of the dash.

Tolleson AZ seems like they're trading their few Impalas for Chargers (they have 1 already) and I saw another in South Bay (not sure what city).

Pics of Driving School/Racing (dial-up beware!)
(Yes, my ugly-mug is in there a few times... but I'm not pointing myself out!
)Almost 90 days in China this year by 15July. Just found out yesterday that I am heading to Wigan, England (just outside Manchester) for 3 weeks in October/November to install a new automation line there. My buddy just got sent to the Czech Republic for equipment testing this week.
Job is insane right now.
On a side note - start looking for more fiberglass in vehicles in the near future, and also look for glass that is color-matched to the body color of the car. I happen to know from a reliable source that there are some really neat things coming in the near future.

As I said before, I think the GM is the model that should be nixxed. Crown Vic has a history back to the early 1950's, and Town Car has been a staple of Lincoln since time began - why whack either of those when they have SUCH name recognition and SUCH a following?
Ford would be in a certified vegetative state to do that right now IMO (and the scary thing is that they are actually considering it with the TC...

I agree with your options list for sure, but would you really put the go-fast goodies on a Grand Marquis? The name just kills it for me... it reminds me of a baalet or recital in an old-timey theatre... "marquis" lights, the Grand Marquis, etc. I think Marauder sounds too cool not to use on a sinister-looking, black and chrome land-yacht with an attitude.
