DETROIT — Buick officials have decided to rename the Regal sedan to LaCrosse when an all-new version debuts in model year 2005.
Buick notified dealers Thursday of the plan. One source familiar with the decision says GM officials feel the re-engineered and restyled model needs to be marketed as a new model.

whats the true definition of lacrosse?
well, i looked it up on dictionary.com (you know, trying to find a different meaning to the word) but all it says is it's a game, that's it

Maybe you change the name so that when the RWD platform comes out in 06 you have a name for the Buick. Or could it be that Regal will get put onto Sigma. There was talk for a while of a Buick Sigma car. I think Regal would fit very nicely on that.

It's sad to see the Regal name go after being around for so long. I must admit that I really like the looks of the LaCrosse show car. Good looking car. Hopefully the transition from concept to reality will keep the design in tact.
If you go to Conceptcarz.com and search for the Lacrosse you will see 2 versions a 2000 and a 2002. Interestingly enough there is another car with almost the same body as this one on there also it is the Celio. I think the Celio an Lacrosse were showing design directions and one was picked to go on the Regal.
An interesting thought just occured to me if Gran Prix and Regal are getting redesigned wouldn't that push the time frame of the Mid-Lux chassis back? Could we also expect to see Impala, the first W-body redesign (think Lumina->Impala), to receive another redesign before going on Mid-lux? This is a very confusing thing they are doing especially if these cars go Mid-lux before going RWD (Sigma/VE).
