Not quite a car post, but nice to hear anyway.
One shouldent confuse Liberals with pacifists (otherwise known by me as idiots or dogfood!) Clinton did the exact same thing in Haiti, & Bosinia, and unleashed the biggest missle attack on a nation (again on Iraq) ever unleashed outside of Desert Storm but I don't seem to recall them being outspoken then, and he's considered "Liberal.
Gepthart is one of the few so called liberals who has always supported getting Husssein out, and one of the ONLY liberals to support Dessert Storm from the moment Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990 was.....Al Gore!
Entertainers who steal the liberal badge just for the purpose of getting more press for themselves IMHO should be given a one way ticket elsewhere or at least recieve extensive forced counseling & never be allowed in public again. There are other entertainers that feel strongly on both sides, and who keep their opinion in perspective as a citizen, expresses it when asked, and doesn't look on themselves as "I'm so-and-so. I'm right, everyone else is wrong, follow me cause I'm famous!"
I don't want to vent, but it's those types of people I think have issues they really need to deal with. Their opinions don't bother me, just the self important way they go about it, and in more cases than not, using half cocked reasoning (I've only heard one star give a well thoughtout reason as to why he opposes war, and isn't one of the "activist stars" I think most all of us are getting sick of seeing). And he wouldn't be considered "Liberal" either.
I don't have a problem with people opposing this war if they have good, thought out personal reasons. I completely respect that. But seems in more cases than not, the herd mentality has taken over (fed by certain "stars") and instead of opposing for an honest logical reason, in this instance, war's being opposed because it's the cool thing to do. It's not even a Liberal vs Conservative debate (though some people have made it so).
It's strange that even though the UN security counsel initially made the rules, and France tried to water it down over the years (French bussinesses have ALOT of industrial & supply agreements with Hussein's goverment
), because the counsel now couldn't even decide to enforce their own rules, some people are up in arms because we are.
That's why it pays to stay informed beyond your own little sphere of life, and read alot!
Still, shouldn't this thread be in the lounge section instead??

Unrelated to the link, but it got me thinking too. Has anyone visited CNN.com website after the bombing started?
Well, they removed all content except the one on war. They give you extensive war coverage on the front page and... that's it. NOthing else on front page. I thought it was quite presumptous - not everyone coming to CNN wants to go there just to check on the progress of war.
No big deal, but I'm just a little sick that CNN will have nothing to talk about once the war is over. If anyone had been turning to their channel for the past few days, the majority was on war... Come on, as important as it is, there are other news.
Just a little venting. They expect to get high ratings for their coverage on war, and that bugs me. Don't ask why.
Hence I decided to read NYTimes.com for now.

I was gonna address the throwing of the "liberal" blanket to cover all things as wrong too, but I renig after your eloquent post.
I myself vote for the right person, not the party.
I come from a VERY military family. I am all for busting Hussein's ***** (and a few others too BTW). I own MANY guns of all shapes and sizes. I earn an "above-average" salary. All of which give me reasons to be pro-republican.
I am also a lover of the outdoors - hunting, fishing, etc - making me somewhat of an environmentalist. I beleive in education FOR ALL ("stupid" people are a burden to those wanting to progress IMO. Don't beleive me, watch Springer for a week
A well educated nation will dominate a third-world nation every time), I beleive in helping those who need it (poor, underprivelidged, oppresed) , I beleive in providing health care to all, and I beleive it should be up to the woman to decide happens with her body (not casual abortion, but in cases like rape it should be HER decision, not the judge's IMO) - these things cause me to be pro-democratic.My point - as guion pointed out - is that many of us can have perfectly acceptable views that "liberals" might share, but that doesn't make everyone with a democratic issue a "bleeding heart Liberal".
Let the whiny bastards stand (or fall
) on their own merits - not on a blanket that shares a few views I might have.As I write this, I just hear on the radio we are in the "shock and awe" part of this campaign now, with most of Baghdad on fire...
My best hopes to those in that theater...

Thanks.
I also failed to mention that I've been on active duty for the past few months (I'm also in the reserves) and everyone in my unit except of few of us left behind to fill in and to coordinate supplies & goods, are right now in the middle east providing "security" in "various" capacities. That's on top of the 10++ years served on regular active duty.
Just don't want anyone thinking the wrong thing about me.

Back to the main subject: You never can generalize people or their viewpoints. The majority of people are lost between "liberal" and "conservative", because that's too black-&-white a categorization.. I consider myself a moderate and just a hair to the left of center. So am I a liberal? Highly doubtful. Bigmouth propagandists make a living coming out with one-sided opinions served up as facts, implying that anyone who disagrees with them is "unpatriotic", and Beth Chapman's rhetoric is just that; one-sided propaganda, highly useless. By the same token, I think tree-hugging oblivious hippies who are blindly protesting issues they're not even familiar with since they're so sheltered, are just as big a problem as right-wing bigmouths. Celebrities who take it upon themselves to abuse their supposed authority to influence impressionable fans of their work are guilty and unjustified in doing it. so I'm not on either side. Personally now that the war is underway, I support it, and there's no doubt our mission is a good-willed one, so let's get it overwith and get out of there as soon as the mission is complete, so they can rebuild their own country with hopefully democratic tendencies.
