being that many muslce cars like the cuda and nova had steel paneling were still lighter than fourth gen camaro's... im gonna have to go with steel. Best of both worlds.
Re: Poll: Next Camaro Plastic or Steel body panels
I don't really care either way as long as the door panels are plastic. Every car should have plastic door panels to save it from dents, then we wouldn't need body side molding.

What makes you guys think that steel is lighter than plastic?
Steel isn't lighter than plastic it is made of materials with a higher density and is therefore heavier. The reason 3rd gens are lighter than 4th gens is that 4th gens have a stiffer chassis and more gizmos and airbags and on and on. The fact of the matter is that a steel fender is heavier than a plastic one. My vote is for plastic.

Is an Ion lighter than a Cobalt? I actually don't know...but I'm under the impression that they are comparable.
How much wieght do the plastic panels on a 4th gen save? I'd say zero.

It saved whatever weight difference there would have been if the panels were steel.
Corvette's aren't steel bodied for a reason....
Re: Poll: Next Camaro Plastic or Steel body panels
Regardless which one is lighter; the car is going to be around the 3500 lbs so as long as it looks good that is the only thing (besides the engine) I am really concerned about..

I say zero. Who knows, for all I know, maybe plastic panels gave us a heavier car than steel.
Can someone shed some light?

Hell, the Third gen is lighter then the 4th gen, and they use all steel, on top of an all iron engine.
