Performance trilogy.
Performance trilogy.
I think it's pretty safe to say that Ford had a pretty big "wow factor" at Detroit with it's performance trifecta:
-Mustang
-Shelby Cobra
-GT
Sure Chevy has Corvette, and we are hopeful for a truly butt kicking Camaro.....but is Ford poised for a new performance era that may leave Chevy in catch-up mode?

Also...the buzz from Detroit is that the Shelby Cobra will be built and priced at around $70K.

By the way, went to NAIAS tonight. I'm very tired so here's a brief rundown, all JMO of course.
C6-Excellent. The front end looks better in person than in pictures or on TV....but it will still take some getting used to. The cleaned up proportions look good.
Mustang-Definitely has "presence". It is noticeably a much larger car than the Fox cars. I'm not sure if this is good or bad. I still think the foglights on the GT are hokey and the styling has a strong "stale" potential. If the plan is to keep introducing "special" models like Mach 1's and Boss 302's they'll need them to keep momentum.
Shelby Cobra-What's the fuss? Honestly if it didn't have the old man's name on it and that snorting V10 I'm not sure what reactions would be. I found the design to be quite uninspiring. The front and rear fascias need a lot of help. Still, it took home "Best of Show" honors from Autoweek so I guess somebody thought it looked hot....:blah:

i also thought the cobra was just uninspiring with it's square dash, sad looking front end, and the rear was just unsightly imo
i think the v10 makes it look better but other than that,
the mustang still looks a little silly w/the fogs but the video they showed really helped make it loook better
gt is ofcourse bada**
back to the topic at hand, i agree that chevy needs to share the performance even though they will have the vette and camaro just because they're part of gm
but with pontiac's lack of direction lately, i'm not sure if they should be called the excitement division anymore, i find more exceitement at chevy myself

The Shelby Cobra is as much a Ford as the CTSv and GTO are a Chevy, they share an engine.

If we include CTSv, why not include Aston Martin and Jaguar and maybe some upcoming Lincolns. If we include GTO....what about Mercury, with next year's Cobra motored Marauder and rumored Cougar?

I sort of wanted to keep this between Chevy and Ford.
