Which performance coupe will be out first?
Which performance coupe will be out first?
The leaks of a performance coupe from Dodge have become too numerous to ignore. I conclude, it's on it's way. Call it Charger, Challenger, whatever...it's coming.
Will it beat Camaro to market?

Re: Which performance coupe will be out first?
I think it will.
We saw a concept in 99 didn't we? Which means they were working on it heavily back then, I can only imagine what is being "worked on" right now.
Hmm........5th gen concepts released to date................ummmm........waiting.......

#1- The 99 concept was a 4dr, not a 2dr SWB V8 powerd anything. It had a Natural Gas buring V6.
#2- GM hasnt released a 2dr concept, but they have made many concepts that could alude to 5th gens design. Im sure Guy would love to fill you in.
Id say that it is a tie. It comes down to which auto show. I wouldn't take it that GM was defeated if lets say Dodge releases its coupe at LAIAS, and then Chevy launches it at NAIAS or NYIAS...actualy, Id love it a lot more if they launched it at NYIAS

.that would mean it might've been put on hold for a little bit, but as we see now, the dodge performance coupe is coming sometime in the near future
i predict camaro will roll out about the same time, maybe only a difference at which shows as big al pointed out
also, i'd like to see the camaro come out at naias too
Re: Which performance coupe will be out first?
well for GM since the discontinued the Camaro in 2002, they can't just turn around and anounce it return 2 years later. The longer they wait the more attention it will get. So if they are gonna put them in the dealers in 2007, wouldn't it make sense to wait as late as possibly (like 2006) to officially anounce it? doesn't matter cause i'm sure we'll all be getting some spy shots soon.

Concepts are design ideas that are being tested on the public, before going on one or more cars. A concept typically has nothing to do with an actual production car, so it can be powered by fusion reactors and be a extended wheelbase station wagon, while the production car it's might actually be a 3 door 4 cylinder hatchback.
There have been thinly disguised "concepts" of late, but they are more the exception than the rule.
The Chrysler Chronos was a "concept" that evolved into the 300.
The Chevy Nomad of '99 was a concept that was a design study of.... somthing else.

Look on the bright side. With both Ford and DaimlerChrysler having RWD V8 Pony cars on the market, their success can only help to convince the bean counters at GM to start listening to the folks at GM that want to bring back the Camaro.

Re: Which performance coupe will be out first?
Yep. 2007 is going to be one hell of a year in the automotive world.
Looks like GTO, "Chevy Performance coupe", Challenger, a Chrysler RWD convertible, the Skyline, a likely new Kappa coupe for Pontiac, and maybe the Cougar for the model year.
The 2007 calender year (2008 model year) looks like the RWD G8, the next Monte Carlo, the RWD Chevy sports sedan, and a few other cars.
BTW: Next year (2006) isn't going to be too shabby either.
*Pontiac Solstice
*Saturn Curve
*Ford Cobra replacement
*Restyled Cadillac CTS
*Chevrolet Impala (FWD)
*Buick LeSabre replacement (FWD with Cadillac's Northstar V8!)
*5.3 V8 replacing supercharged 3800s in GM's midsized cars.
*new Ford SVT Lightning
*Dodge Neon replacement (likely to also be a coupe)
*Ford Fusion
*Chevrolet Corvette Z06
*Chevrolet Malibu SS (hey, at least it's quicker)
*Chevrolet Trailblazer SS (6.0 liter V8!)
*Chevrolet Silverado SS (possibly supercharged)
....And that's just the known semi-confirmed stuff.
