Out-frigging-standing!!!!!

From Automotive News story on new Z06:

"Speaking of track mode, Hill says occasional weekend competition use of your Z06 won’t void the warranty, unlike the case with some other manufacturers."

Way to step up!

awesome!
this totally puts me back in the game.
i was totally not caring about a new factory car that can take some throttle. with the comps shutting down if you drive to hard, or cutting power, voiding warranty.

i completely lost respect for the automotive world and for me, now GM is 1000 x better than the others since they can step up like this.
awe...some

I'm pretty sure the came up with this stance right around the time they said "hey, let's give it a dry sump" There is no reason a street car would ever need this feature, lol. Its a real track car that you can drive everyday and that's something the Viper still hasn't gotten right.

No, no. The Viper is still cooler because it's a Viper, and the Vette is still a Vette.

The Z06 is essentially a competition car, so what's the deal.

Now, if he said that about a standard Corvette, then my heart would go a-flutter.

I've never heard GM say anything of the sort, about any car, ever.

True, on the one hand I'm thinking "wow that's really cool!" On the other hand I'm thinking "so they're pledging to stand behind a $70k car when the rich enthusiast uses the car for what it's built to do. Yippee."

Tell ya what, when GM crafts me a purpose-built Camaro Z28, prices it where mere mortals can get a piece, and stands behind it like that....that's when I'll jump for joy.

You are dreaming. I don't think affordable, purpose built or camaro belong in the same sentence.

Re: Out-frigging-standing!!!!!

I know Tom I know, but I really don't see a reason why GM couldn't give me a Z28 with an LS2 and a suspension that would carve up any Mustang in the twisties for $30,000-$35,000. Maybe I am dreaming though.

I share your dream.

But I'd prefer something abit edgier than the LS2.

Re: Out-frigging-standing!!!!!

My friend used to road race his 3rd gen Trans Am (non-1LE), when it was new. He'd usually warp all four rotors everytime he'd go to the track.

He'd make his wife take it to the dealer for replacements under warranty.

Mark my words...

By MY 2008-2009 the 400hp LS2 will not have enough snot to be a top ponycar motor, no matter how Ford stumbles on with the Mustang.

The bar will continue going up, and the 5.3 having enough displacement to get the job done is a pipe dream.

I know.

Even without more displacement, LS2 is only a cam/exhaust/ECM reflash away from a 435-440 factory rating.

I definitely agree. Unless we/GM is interested in creating 7,500 RPM grenade motors.
