Thumbs up Onstar to the rescue!

Six in Pontiac minivan survive 400-foot plunge.

A family of four and two friends can count their lucky stars, and the fact that they were all wearing seatbelts, for surviving a nearly 400-foot plunge down a Colorado mountain ravine.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6973607/

"I had a sinking feeling knowing no one could survive that sheer drop," he added, but "I looked over the edge, and ... to our amazement people started to exit the vehicle."

Terri Garcia, in the meantime, was using the Onstar satellite feature of their SUV for the first time to call for help.

Guess it does come in handy in an emergency!

Oh what the hell, i'll beat the anti-onstar folks to the punch. "That terri person could have used a simple cell phone to call in for help".

Btw: I don't hate Onstar. Just figured that comment was bound to be posted sooner or later.

dont tell my wife about this story, otherwise I will have to get it for her.

She is convinced she will die if she doesn't have on-star.

Point out to her that not only did lots of people do fine in accidents before onstar, but they drove rwd v8 cars in ice and snow without stability control and didnt kill themselves before getting off their own street...

OnStar didn't save anyone in this instance. The other motorist obviously stopped after figuring out the minivan had went off the road. With-or-without OnStar, the six people in the minivan would have survived.

No, fool! It handles so much better than the "antiquated" GMT800 SUVs, there is no way it would have gone off the road and down the ravine!

I wouldn't have driven off a cliff to begin with.

Yeah I am sure the other driver meant to also. Accidents happen that is why they are called accidents. How many have you have and how long have you been driving, Mr. Redzed?

I've been driving a whole decade and I've been totally accident free. And yes, I've been driving on winter roads that are just as bad as those in Colorado.
